Hello all, Tranmere fan here in peace.. We've currently got Danny Woodards on trial at our club and he put in a decent performance at left back (vs Everton) last night.
Just wondered what your thoughts were on him and is he a good player at league 2 level?

Sorry never heard of a Danny Woodwards, but Danny Woodards is an excellent player for League 2 IF he can stay fit and was our player of the season a few years back.

Very good versatile, player, good strong tackler, has pace, plays anywhere in the back four or as a defensive midfielder. good footballer, great bloke.! Downside: very injury prone, fix that and you'll have a good player.

Excellent player on his day. Was our POTY a few seasons back as well.
He has had two serious career threatening injuries in a row(also one at MK Don's before that I believe) in the past year and a half though. If you can keep him fit then you have a good player.
From our point of view, a player I don't think we could risk accommodating this season. We carried so many injured players last season and it really cost us.
Best of luck for the coming season.

He was probably our best player , but has been injured and missed most of the last 2 seasons
can play anywhere along the back 4 or holding midfield .Good league 1 defender when fit.

Top quality utility player, won play of the season for us at the end of the 11/12 season when playing as a right back. Looks good wherever he plays especially at centre bacK or in the middle of midfield. A player who can easily play League 1 football but has been plagued with horrific injury's these last couple of seasons aswell as family problems with the tragic death of his brother. Would have been great if he stayed with us but the fact he's only played 30 games in the last 2 seasons meant we probably needed to use our budget on less injury prone players. Would be a fantastic signing for any league 2 club if you can keep him fit.

Honestly, the last player we signed that made me go "wow, how the heck did we sign him". At the time we signed him he was easily good enough for a lower end Championship side at RB, probably the best in the bottom two divisions. Unfortunately he has had a wretched two years or so.

He was very good when he was fit, unfortunately that wasn't as often as many would have liked. If he can remain fit he's a solid defender - he was our best player in his first season with us I remember rightly. Injuries and Michael Smith improving a lot he lost his starting place at right back. He proved to be a decent utility man in the end playing as a centre half and in the midfield at different periods of the season.

Thanks guys.. comments appreciated. They would explain Rob Edwards comments this morning:
1) Wants Woodards to stay with us as he is versatile and is a very good player and has been unlucky with injuries in past
2) Although impressed with Woodards has told him he needs to be fitter and has given him 10 days to get fitter

Was probably the best RB in league 2 in his first season but after 2 bad injuries looked at the end of last season as if he had lost a bit of pace and wasn't as fierce in the tackle.
He also had personal tragedy with the murder of his brother and I hope he gets back to his best with you.

When fit he's a fine player.
Don't read too much into his injuries, the worst one he got whilst with us was the result of a shocking, studs up, over the ball challenge by Jake Reed of Daggenham, (the referee, Mark Hayward, initially didn't even give a foul, but changed his mind when he saw the injury) that's not Danny's fault, it's not as if he's one of those players who continually break down in training.
Danny, when fit, is too good for a L2 club and shouldn't be anywhere near a Conference club like Rovers.

When fully fit possibly a better defender than our Michael Smith who's just signed for P'boro for £1K's, no doubt if you sign him he will stay injury free all season!! We'll have to "adopt" yoru team as our league team to support if you sign him to go with ER & MG.

Can only echo what has been said. You have an excellent player on your hands if he stays fit.

Since Crewe he hasn;t had any full seasons.

Brilliant player, real steady Eddie wherever he plays. Very mobile and reads the game very well too.
Hopefully his injury problems are behind him; he's one of those players who even as a fan of the club he left, you really hope he does well. He's always come across as a really nice guy and gives 100% every game.
Good luck Danny and Tranmere this season.

Get him on a "Pay as you Play" basis.
Otherwise - walk away.
When he plays he's good - and most Gasheads will wish him well.
