Copied from the other place: www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2017/june/checkatradetrophy1718/16 U21 teams are entering the EFL Trophy this year, including newcomers Fulham, Man City, Tottenham and Newcastle. I'm still inclined to boycott the games as Shaun Harvey is still insisting the experiment is a success, ignoring the widespread disquiet amongst L1 & L2 supporters. The attendance at the Coventry/Oxford final unfortunately papering over the cracks. Thoughts?

There will be, no doubt, some credit claimed at EFL HQ, on planet Mars, for the U20s winning their World Cup and the U21s going further than their last four or so Euros as a result of introducing academy players in to the Checkatrade. Next they will be loooking at bringing in penalty shoot outs no matter what the final score involving academy sides.

There were more minutes played in Eredivisie last season by the U-20's than the Checkaharddrive Trophy.

Which England U20 played in the Eredivisie? (Or am I taking you too literally)?

Thanks! It's an interesting article.
People often talk about giving the kids experience in "men's football".
The Mirror found that they got that experience mainly in the Premier League, Championship, League One, FA Cup and League Cup matches.
Compared to those competitions, the Chuckitin Trophy provided just 1.7% of the playing-time for the England U20 and U21 lads.
And the Dutch connection: "Chelsea’s Lewis Baker...spent the season on loan at Vitesse Arnhem".

We should compete in the competition but close the stadium when at home to save costs in stewarding. If the FA are serious about given youngters real men experience then they should restrict the squad sizes of all Premiership clubs so youngsters can no longer be 'harvested'.
If premiership clubs want their youngsters to get real mens experience then they should sell them to lower league clubs but retain an option or percentage ownership. That a 23 year old is now regarded as a youth product shows how much the English game has lost it's responsibility to produce players for the national team.

It's a free world (kindof) and I'll take just as much delight boycotting this event as I did last year.
I'm with Chewie on this one.
The fact they chose not to publish with transparency the result of the votes for/against this, leads me to disbelieve anything involved with this joke of a competition.
As the majority of fans have been treated with contempt, then so do i in this current format treat this tournament with same said contempt.
F em all..

Got Wycombe and Swindon plus an Academy side (tba, could be: Chelsea, Fulham, Reading, Southampton, Swansea City, Tottenham Hotspur or West Ham United) in our group - may add some interest, don't know, who cares?

We should play our U23 side too. After all, the competition is about helping youngsters for our national team (the Jordanian will need special dispensation)

Have the EFL loosened the rules on 'first team players'?

Bit like the old days Rovers teenagers given chance to play in the highly competitive Football Combination. Men against boys ..often see Arsenal, Chelsea,Tottenham,West Ham full internationals playing against youngsters like Pete Aitken, Phil Bater etc.
Many of Rovers current players would struggle to get in Rovers Football Combination side the standard was that high.
For me playing Premiership Under 21/23 sides is an opportunity to see stars of the future. Some of those youngsters maybe considered for loan to league one clubs like Rovers just as Colkett and Clarke Salter did last season.
