That Ipswich game still bugs me,I think that was Rovers best chance in my lifetime of getting to the semi final at least. I remember how cold that day was too and how many coppers were there to make sure the Saints game incidents weren't repeated.

That game was without doubt, the coldest game that I have ever attended. It so numbed by body and brain, that I was just relieved when it was all over. Pure sacrilege that is, I know.

I remember going to Luton by special train twice and both games being cancelled, once when we had arrived at Luton !...I think the football club paid for a fleet of coaches to get us to the rearranged game.

I cant remember but its definitely possible because in 1979 (the 6-1 defeat) the programme is dated Sat 17th Feb but the game was actually on the 26th Feb. I went in 78 ( the replay) in the back of a transit and in 79 on the special train, both were very long painful journeys, getting home in time to go to work.....happy days.

My only trip to Ipswich was on the Supporters Club coaches in the 1980s (I believe), and it seemed to go on forever and ever.
But nowhere near as long as the journey to Gillingham. That really is a killer.

That really is a killer. The problem with the drive to Ipswich in the 70s was no M25,we went right through London which was solid traffic.
We got to Gillingham in 4 hours this year and that was with 2 stops, the journey home after a bad result seems longer,Ipswich then,Dover a couple of years ago,Gillingham always.
