He may have inflated the potential asking price he wanted for snake when snake was being 'difficult'. I don't think that qualifies as 'fibbing'. That's just establishing a strong bargaining position. We can agree to differ. I trust DC.

Well if Marriott goes from Luton to Peterborough for £400k & he is replace by James Collins the lump from Crawley for £200k then that might suggest that in the current market Ellis is worth well into 6 figures.

Good news, unlike dozens around me who prefer him to play at Bath, or similar, I'm a fan. This will be a great season for Ellis, that's my prediction. Would love to be proven wrong but I don't think there will be any improvement in Ellis and what we've seen so far is as good as it gets. Given the coaching he has had from a top striker like Marcus, I'm left feeling we have an under acheiving player. No physical strength, no anticipation and will always end up in a heap on the floor whenever he plays. A confidence player without a doubt. He does indeed divide opinion and like I say I'd love to be proven wrong JusThe because you are a top player doesn't mean you are a top coach or player after all one of the country.side greatest ever players admitted he was not able to translate his ability into management or coaching that man was Bobby Charlton so don't make the mistake of thinking that Stewart is neccessarily able to be a good coach

ps ex pros dont always make good scouts No but they have a more rounded idea of what goes on at clubs than those who haven't been either. As for your other point I was just remarking about ex players not always able to pass on their skills to others

Has DC ever been caught out lying at any stage? In 3+ years - I don't think so. That's a lot of press coverage and a lot of interviews. An honest man. If he says he's been offered 6 figures for Ellis, then I believe him. He might just have a better idea of his worth than some of the bigots who purport to be Gasheads. As you haven't linked your reply to my post I've no idea if you are referring to it or not, but I suspect that you are so I feel the need to clarify my comments. Like yourself I suspect, I am a firm admirer of the manager, and wouldn't for one moment doubt his honesty. But most of us are men of the world, and as such realise that on occasions we may say things that wouldn't necessarily stand strict scrutiny. I would regard that as negotiating tactics, and life is all about the outcome of a successful negotiation. But this brings to mind what Bill Shankly allegedly said to Tommy Smith, his famous player: "You son, you could start a riot in a graveyard." I know exactly how that feels.

No worries. DC is not perfect and has been known to drop the odd howler (Charlton away anyone?). But in terms of his integrity - you just can't question it. We are very lucky to have him and he is very much part of the evolution of this football Club. Great times to be a Gashead. UTG.

He may have inflated the potential asking price he wanted for snake when snake was being 'difficult'. I don't think that qualifies as 'fibbing'. That's just establishing a strong bargaining position. We can agree to differ. I trust DC. We had no bargaining position as it was written in his contract. DC's "millions" comment was obfuscation at best; I'm not knocking him, but what he said wasn't true and therefore definitely constitutes a fib.

I see that we two at least, live in the real world . . . and no disrespect intended to anyone, or anybody. Bring on the new signings, I say.

Knowing what the particular club are looking for in terms of ability and mentality such as how certain players will fit in with the ideas of the club coaches and management. Ability is only one aspect of a scouts job
