Rovers' FA Cup Story 1946-47 to 2016-17 Part 1: Intro
It’s the FA Cup Final today! (Arsenal v Chelsea). Not as interesting as it used to be? Last November, I submitted a series of posts reviewing Rovers’ performance in the Cup since I started watching in 1969-70. Within a week of posting, Barrow had knocked us out of this season’s competition, making a mockery of the observation that we had previously only lost twice in 14 encounters with clubs two tiers below us. As penance, I’ve wound the clock back further, and analysed Rovers FA Cup history from 1946-47 up to 1968-69. (That should satisfy one or two of the old-timers who were kind enough to comment on my posts, recalling games from the earlier decades!). The attached charts show wins (blue) and defeats (red) in the 58 ties between 1946-47 and 1968-69, and the 96 ties between 1969-70 and 2015-16, grouped by the relative league statuses of Rovers and our opponents.
