They only got given 1,200 tickets and I'm not even sure they got past the season ticket holders before sold out. Can't remember any problems between Rovers and Millwall before. There was even one game at home to Millwall, back at Eastville in the 80s, where they gave out tickets to local school kids for the open away end. If Millwall claim 6th spot then fair play to them - they will have deserved it. The Mickey Barrett game, we were 2-1 down and MB scored 2 to win 3-2....and all the trouble afterwards, Millwall were in our stand wearing blue of course..started throwing almost every seat they could get their hands on....the underlined comment was a joke...yeah..?? Nope. No joke. You are right - it is the Mickey Barrett 2-1 down game I'm thinking of. I was at the game, sitting in the North Stand, and have no recollection of any Millwall fans in the stand, or any trouble afterwards. Yours is the first I've heard mention of it. I do remember loads of kids in the away end (some from our school) with free tickets. I remember there being few away fans in the open end, being an evening game, and that the ones who were there must have been bemused by the kids running round playing touch, bulldog, 123 release-ter, 40/40, or whatever. I've been to The Den in the '90s and The New Den in the '00s.

I'm sure there was a home match v millwall, circa 1983/84 where a fire was started in away end. Only small, but they were a bit boisterous! I know they started one during the 1-1 draw about 85/86 as me and my mate were stood next to it,we were going in the north stand but after a couple of ciders in the fox we thought we would go in the away end for a laugh. Remember someone called out for newspapers and a few got chucked in the same direction, they were set alight which led to about six coppers walking into an ambush, with the usual helmets and arms flying about, nearly cheered when rovers scored, thankfully wasnt that pizzed, ended up on the millwall train back to london as coppers forced us onto train at stapleton road, happy days.

Haha! It was acceptable in the 80s....as someone sang once! That's def the match referring to!

Aye, I recall that game, I was watching from the safety of my kids bedroom window in Napier Road, the trouble started in the North Stand that was closest to the away end, the wooden seat's were being ripped up and thrown everywhere, I also got a fair amount of abuse from the Away end as I had my Rovers scarf hanging out the window and a row of beverages lined up on the window ledge, they were rather jealous I think, my house was second from the end, so I was very close to the away end.

Blimey my friend...you were there in the stand and do not recall any trouble, 08.05.1984...Mickey Barrett's last home game, everything was ok as Millwall were 1-0 up, 2-1 up and coasting along nicely until MB turned on the magic with 2 late goals and all hell broke loose, when the seats started to rain down on us we moved as far away as possible, we saw many fans with blood gushing from head wounds, a truly memorable game for on the pitch magic and off the pitch madness.

My memory is that this is two different games in the same year. I was in the Muller Road end with a free ticket from school for the Mickey Barrett game. It was a Tuesday night and hardly any Millwall were at that game. The game when they were in The North Stand was later in the same year in November a 1-1 draw. I was stood in the North Enclosure. Loads of abuse between the Millwall in the stand and Rovers in the enclosure before seats started flying. A mate from school got hit on the side of the head by a bit of wood thrown from the stand and ran out the ground!

I think you're right, segas. I was in the North Stand for the 3-2 game in the May, and don't remember any trouble, but would have been playing in the Downs League on the Saturday in November, so would have missed that one at Eastville.
The video of the May game shows some jubilant Rovers fans, and some cavalry, but I'm sure HTV wouldn't have missed an opportunity to highlight any trouble if there had been any!

Might have forgot but it sounds like something i'd remember.

Given their notoriety they have not really caused us anything such as Chelsea have.

Interesting that can take positive from millwalls reputation and fanbase regarding The Lion of London Bridge!
I wonder if it was a more gentle type of fan, (say maybe Leyton Orient?) ?! Haha!
