Groundsman reports that the pitch is "firm", despite the heavy overnight rain. hope it's ok. hammering down here (10 miles away) and still going. floods on local roads. any chance this could be the first waterlogged July friendly ever? I'm not speculating. Just wondering.

Looks as though the lightning should have passed over by 2 o'clock, and by half-time it will have stopped raining!

Rain is not an issue after the last 6 weeks of drought we have had, the ground is so hard even monsoon like weather can't do any damage. Thunder and lighting will be the biggest issue from a safety point of view as it's pretty open at Twerton.

DT looks to have a football brain How has Trotman looked at the back? According to twitter reports he's looked very good. Not surprised as he's a good quality football league player.

Hope he signs on, would be a bit more confident with playing 3-5-2 system if we could get him in and keep Smudge.

Macca and Parkes and both good centre halfs, but we lack a right footed one and someone who is really dominant in the air, Trotman would be the the perfect fit for what we are lacking and if he signs i think defensive side of the team would be complete and looking very strong.

Thanks alwaysgas. Maybe he'll get another run out if DC saw the same footballing brain. I enjoyed todays game and a team that was essentially triallists and first year pros passed the ball reasonably well and there was a distinct lack of hoofball. It is good that DC is imposing the same way of playing throughout the club. If he gets it right I suspect Irish and I will both enjoy the football. It is wrong to judge the triallists on one game especially as 3 of them were in the back four together but on todays performance my opinion is Higgins - a better defender than Smudge was when he joined and I think worth a continued trial. Trotman - some poor distribution but worth another look. Pierce - looked small for a CB and didn't appear to have the speed to compensate so wouldn't pursue. Thompson - Well worth another look as he can flick on headers and when ball is played to his feet looks to bring in other players. Put in a superb crossfield pass to Jamie W, who put the ball onto Baptise's head 2 yards out, who unfortunately did an O'Tool. Preston looked okay and had 2 good saves and 1 excellent one and the other 1st year pros put in a shift. Of the established players Jamie W other than his cross was anonimous and looked abit overweight whilst Ellis still looks along way from being right. However, our man of the match was easily Jake Gosling, who on todays performance looks a good player. I think we did OK against what was apparently Bath's first team, who I think will have a good season. As for lack of signings the post keeps on about Bradley not signing but Martin Allen, who signed him 2 months ago said he cancelled his contract by mutual agreement because he wanted to go back to the midlands so I suspect DC was just hoping Bristol might be close enough. Allen also told talksport that his Chairman had really supported him and that he was going with 18 decent quality players supplemented by youth team players. It's lucky for him he wasn't offered the job here as with his strategy some of our fans would have wanted him out by now. Read more: gasheads.org/thread/622/happening-bath?page=3#ixzz37xuI2f1H

Preston - Did well and made a couple of point blank saves and distribution was good Trotman - He was dominant in the air all game, would definitely get him signed up Mitchell - did well, definite option, lacks a bit of pace Gosling - Looks a great player, will need legs around him, creativity we have been lacking Broom - Pacey and direct, really liked his attitude Thompson - Big, Pacey, skilful, definitely worth pursuing Harrison - Lots of space late on, but he wasn't interested in putting any effort in, get rid
Just my opinion but definitely 3/4 players looking like good options to supplement 1st team squad
Cheers

A spirited effort from a group of players most of who really have little prospect of getting near the first team. Preston- a good youngster who made a couple of good saves, he's good enough for our no2. Higgins- good pace, kept going, good engine, maybe Smiths replacemnt Greenslade- good youngster, improved as the game went on, Mitchell- sorry,no pace, lacks hieght, made a couple of serious errors that should have been punished Trotman - a big unit, ideal for us. Ward-Baptiste- missed the easiest sitter, flitted about a bit,not impressed but may improve in time. Broom- looks about 12 but improved as the game went on,a good attitude and lots of energy but wont be more than a sub at best. Gosling- well worth the petrol money, this lad oozes confidence, was involved in everything, with Sinclair and Mansell around im he could emerge as a real star, someone should tell him he's not Ricky Lambert, his free kicks were his one weakness. Thomas- Gave the ball away far too often but a nice touch and got involved, always wanted the ball. White- Looks a bit overweight but is obviously a good footballer, plenty of running off the ball. He'll get goals. Thompson- a gangly, awkward bugger,my mind went back to big Dev, maybe one to come off the bench and confuse the opposition. Subs Harrison-same as usual, useless Lucas - beginning to fill out a bit, theres something about this kid I like,no where near the finished article yet though. In summary,3/4 could feature but Gosling apart it wouldnt worry me if we didnt see any of them again.
