Bit surprised - but I guess that's why DC said he wanted to let the supporters know in advance. As someone who singled out Bath as the only game I'd be attending this pre-season, I might have to think about whether I go based on that. Whilst excited about the prospect of seeing Trotman and Higgins play, I thought a few first-team regulars would at least play 45.

Perhaps this squad will be thrown into first team; doesn't look like any signings joining us!

Feel a bit sorry for Bath City, as they obviously priced it up as a prestige friendly, not a run out for trialists.

Well at least DC has come out and told everyone the squad, no one can be disappointed now. I guess its a case of needs must at the moment. Maybe DC views the younger squad members as potential 'new signings' in as much as if he feels one of them can make the break through this season its one less headache in that position.
Would still like to see us get 1 or 2 full season loans in. Minimal cost (if negotiated properly) and potential to have a steady squad early on, i.e no 1 month loans coming through a rotating door playing 1 game and buggering off!

Who is that player in the yellow next to Darrell ?
He looks a bit of an airhead and needs to put some weight on.

3 games to go (Mangotsfield is a rovers 11) after the Bath game to play our strongest 11. 2 if we are not planning on playing our first 11 against Gloucester.
Fingers crossed that by playing two league one teams it will help our team 'gel'. I'm worried that the attacking side of the team is hardly going to get a look in before the season kicks off though!

Basically...
Bath (A) - Tomorrow Yeovil (A) - 22nd (Tuesday) Mangoes (A) - 23rd (Wednesday) Gloucester (A) - 26th (Saturday) Coventry (H) - 1st August (Friday)
I guess DC is giving the trialists one last week, playing his strongest XI at Gloucester. Bit frustrating for those planning on only Bath this pre-season, but means I might be tempted by Coventry at home.

Feel a bit sorry for Bath City, as they obviously priced it up as a prestige friendly, not a run out for trialists. Surely it's about getting us ready for next season nothing else. DC obviously knows how the majority of the first team squad fit into his plans hence giving others a chance to impress. Also they have had a very tough week in Cardiff by all accounts!

Agree - I did make a similar point in my earlier post on this thread.

That is a rubbish Squad - makes little sense, concerns me the lack of competitive games that it seems the 1st team squad will be playing pre-season. apparently we are in non-league now. makes sense to me. cirencester are several lges below us so we use it for trialists and 1st yr pros chelt are now a lge above us so we put out a strong team. Bath are a lge below us,and we play yeovil on tuesday, so it's a middling team. All this merely goes to prove that DC is a bit of a planner and thinker, unlike other managers we've had.

It seems to me from the article that he has spotted some potential in some of the triallists and wants to give them a proper chance to prove themselves in a reasonably competitive match, rather than watching them in practice matches. Seems a sensible approach to me. I wish, so close to the start of our first season in the Premier League, that we had established more clearly the shape of the squad, but we haven't. Still seems the right approach though. One or two might really shine, with a couple of weeks after that to get them ready to be squad players.

I am thinking of heading for the covered terrace, aiming to stand the same place I stood when we played in Bath
