can remember that 1-1 at Cambridge............. is that sad!! .....thought the "old bill" were glad that we came away with a result that day ,as far as my memory goes there were quite a few rovers fans there that day and a sense of trouble in the air.. fortunately never happened ,at least not on the scale the "bill" were fearing, some minor scuffles were all it amounted to think i was there , we came out and cambridge came across a big field and turned around ran and it was cross country around the local estate with rovers in pursuit If I remember correctly a garden shed was ransacked and some Cambridge ambushed always remember one of them running away covered in the latest delux think it was sickly green also remember a couple of the lads who were there turned to the dark side just after .The Hereford game was mental loads of arrests and one or two got jail I think including Aggie think the train got set on fire because we drove and arranged to pick up one of our lot from Stapleton road station it arrived well after midnight and looked like it had been to a war zone crazy days seems like only yesterday but nearly forty years ago

The Hereford game was in the League Cup,can anyone remember the second leg game or the train journey home ? Peter Aitken was a good player for Rovers,I am sure I saw him play in defence and in midfield. was that our first time there and it was rammed ?. plod put us all behind that dopey little wall and wouldnt let us use the spare terrace- ridiculous. i think the special got wrecked too coming home Rovers had played there before in the old 3rd and 2nd divisions..but we were all rammed in,there was damage to the train, but they made the train leave before all the Rovers supporters got back to the station and inevitably the communication cord was pulled, several times as I remember it,as Badbloodash says we were very late getting home. Cambridge was another special train ( Rovers had pretty good away support overall in 77 and 78) they had buses at the train station to ferry us to the ground but most walked it was a long way..when we got back to Temple Meads there was a welcome home party waiting outside ! Rovers took good support to a lot of away games then mainly because of the special trains which were quite cheap.
