He won several player of the season awards at Yeovil last season and will be back up, competition, for Leadbetter and Browner, can play either side.

Good signing this, been told by a Yeovil fan he was excellent for them last season and a Swansea fan that he's very much seen as a future first team player for them.
Seems like his primary position is RB which I think is a good thing as it will mean we'll see James Clarke challenging for a place at centre back which in my opinion is where he's far more comfortable.

I don't believe that Roberts will be back up.
He's primarily a right back and I think the cover for left back is little more than a bonus.
I personally feel that we have a weakness in this position so a good signing in that respect.

I think Leadbitter is a very good attacking full back who very much like Michael Smith has improved the defensive side of his game massively since he first came in. I'm not convinced he's quite good enough going forward to be a wing back, hes had a few opportunities this season to really attack a space and seems to lack a bit of confidence/footballing brain to make the most of it so if we are going 3-5-2 it will be interesting to see Roberts in the wingback position. I'm pretty happy with or defence, but only having 6 first team players who can play there was always a risk when we often play 5 of them so his versatility will be a big asset.

Leadbitter cannot cross the ball like Brown and he can't defend like James Clarke. Need to start with Connor Roberts next Tuesday and see what he can do. Must have had plenty of defending to do at Yeovil last season.

I don't like to talk down Rovers players but I personally don't really rate Leadbitter and haven't since he joined.
His pace is a massive asset but it is only almost all of his assets. His control isn't great, he isn't a great defender and his final ball is often poor.
He also gives the odd situation of never really playing well at wing back but also not really being trusted in a four man defence. He is often one of the first casualties when we play a difficult game which for me says it all.
Sadly although he has progressed since he joined I don't think he'll progress up to Michael Smith's level.

Hmm think the last two posts are a little harsh, when he first joined I thought his defending was a car crash waiting to happen and the only way he'd make it would be if he was converted into a winger. He's still not at Smith's level but he's improved massively and he'd be my first pick at RB in a 4-4-2, I think his defending is at least on a par with JC and a lot of our goals last season (ie. Cobblers away) came from overlapping full backs. I'm not saying it was purely down to Leadbitter but around September last season when he got injured our form slumped pretty dramatically.

Sadly although he has progressed since he joined I don't think he'll progress up to Michael Smith's level. For a player with such blistering pace, it is incredible how often he stops his run & ops to play it inside or pass backwards. At first I thought it must be his instructions, but it's such a common occurrence in his game, surely it has to be a confidence thing?! It isn't hard when you are blessed with that speed, to push it past your marker and get on your bike. There aren't many players in this league that will catch him over 10/20/30 yards. So why never do it?! I've found it hilarious (prior to the Chelsea game anyway) that Sinclair was the player getting all the pelters for his performances so far. 'Not good enough for this league' they said, after merely 1 league match and 1 league cup game. For me, Leadbitter has had a very poor start to this campaign and really has to improve. Otherwise Roberts will step into the side and DL will find it extremely hard to get back in.

Leads suffers from a lack of self-confidence and also being messed about position wise, he is much better as a right back and performs poorly starting in the midfield. He is certainly better than he has shown so far this season.

The thread is about Connor Roberts, which on paper seems another decent acquisition.
We need cover for both full back positions.
The subject of Leads is something else, albeit indirectly related. I like him. His progress has been remarkable, from when he first joined us. His blistering pace and stamina is amazing. His choice in the last third leaves alot to be desired, but surely this can be coached?
*tin hat on* I would love to see him try a Scott Murray now and again. After getting himself in position, why not try a shot?

We are serious about progressing and this is what i take from the new signings. Competition for places with the goal of improving the team/squad. Excellent.
