If the kids are off school then isn't an adult looking after them during the day anyway? The same adult who might take them to the fun day? Yeah but its the big kids that miss out ;-) I think that many are not taking into account that this is the very first experience of rovers they get. I took Sophie and, in her own words, she hated football and didn't get why grown men could act so dafty over it lol i honestly think this is a big deal. I didn't think the bus tour was a problem but, when coupled with this, it does beg at least questioning the reasons why it has been relegated to a work day thing. I was hoping to bring my Nieces kids but am at Addenbrookes that day so I am missing out on bonding time with family and they won't have their crazy great uncle Jools to make em laugh with highly inappropriate behaviour.

From comments on Twitter it appears that it might be touch and go whether or not the new shirts will be ready by early August. Hence the late date for this.
Given that the season starts 5 days later when would people suggest this takes place?

Not to mention that there is a car boot sale each weekend at the Mem. It seems like someone forgot about the open day when that was agreed.

Pretty sure if memory serves me correctly, when rovers were using Cadburys(frys) as a training base the open night was a Friday night and it was a great success. Surely something more suitable for fans could be organised this year. Frys was a great Open Evening. Not sure how many years it took place there, but I remember being there and thousands attended. It was a big open sports field back then and was packed out. I think one year must have been the summer after the 1990 promotion season. I recall Reecey, Yatesy, Twentyman and Holloway, amongst the crowd. They had a catwalk in the clubhouse (The Carter Rooms) for the launch of the new kit. It was full and I couldn't get in. There was also an friendly / exhibition match - present squad against former players (legends). Wish I could remember who played in that. Bet people like Harold Jarman pulled their boots on for a kickabout. Bet that some of those legends are sadly no longer with us. I also remember that evening. Weather was great.

Does this open day have to be pre season, why cant it be Sunday 4th September before the charity game, may get a few more into watch. Commercial decision to sale loads of new shirts...maybe some Club officials may be wondering if the Spanish trip is worthwhile as no money to be made from it.
