This is looking like a complete car crash! You'd think that this would only have been announced only AFTER they were sure that Premier League clubs would be interested. Someone has made some massive assumptions here - increasingly it is looking like something that was drawn up on the back of a beer mat by football league officials during an extended liquid lunch on a friday afternoon..... The EFL have thought of this! Apparently there is a 11 July deadline for PL clubs to commit, if not the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham, Norwich and Reading and others will be approached.

I thought the initial idea for the competition, was that lower league teams, had a chance of a Wembley final.... As no sponsor following JP leaving they were trying to attract another sponsor so suggested Big Clubs enter as well

Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs have now all dropped out. does this mean other big clubs like Bristol City, Burton Albion and Cardiff City will replace them ? It'll go like this: I'll be very suprised if they don't find enough teams to fill it. Only way to beat them is to boycott the entire competition.

We really need to put a quick and decisive stop to this and hopefully there will be no more talk of adding another league and prem B teams playing in the FL

If one top tier or 2nd tier team play,i will boycott. Thin end of the wedge. Next thing these people will want the top team reserves in 4th and 5th tier. Line drawn,no way this EFL Trophy top team reserves idea should be supported.

Well bounced, Bas. Any more news (not least on a date for the draw - presumably some time after a deadline for these people to decide whether to grace / use us with their presence)?

The whole principle of club competition is destroyed by this competition format. The Fa have done themselves no favours whatsoever
