Extending South stand, moving control tower and seem to be clearing space where Guinness stand used to be.

Won't this require planning permission?

Didn't go that much in depth, just asked staff what plans over close season was and that was what I was told, as well as some new staff coming on board with the club... .

It would be good to increase the capacity bit sure it would require temporary planning permission. Should not be a problem as permission was granted for 16000 some years ago which has since run out but the principle of a larger capacity is there.

Seems an odd thing to do, how many times did we sell out last season? Twice?

But we have some bigger clubs coming to the mem, we have just had a double promotion and have momentum; there is a real feel good factor. I guess that is why we did sell out twice! We are going to get bigger crowds and I would have thought the board would do everything they could to test the potential of attendance in L1.

Let's not kid ourselves that if it's midtable mediocrity (which I'll happily take now) or a relegation battle that we'll still be getting the crowds we saw at the end of the season.

Seems like there is a big demand for seats.

Nope - I disagree. We are not going to looking at Relegation battles. (you heard it here) Mid table mediocrity is not decided until the last month because of playoffs. The clubs in L1, on the whole, have larger crowds than in L2.
I wont hear another word on the subject.

Every right to be optimistic, a professionally run club building the foundations, a team playing like a runaway train and a (mostly) united fan base feeling totally connected to the club, rather a heady mix for further success, this is just the beginning IMO.

Seems an odd thing to do, how many times did we sell out last season? Twice? Ah but how many times did we sell out of SEATS last year - and for that matter in other recent seasons too? Quite a few times I think. Yes, the terraces have always had a little bit of space but additional seating could definitely attract more marginal supporters!

I think it's a great idea if true. Shows the new board are at least optimistic. We are doing well on season tickets and this allows more room for seats for walk ups on the day. It also makes extra room if we play clubs with a big number of travelling supporters. Anything to boost income!
PS seems strange that those who complained about the perceived negativity on this forum are well... quite frankly so negative.

Won't this require planning permission? Yes it absolutely will, you can't just go increasing the capacity just because you fancy it. All public auditoriums have to be licenced by the local authority and have to meet strict health and safety regulations particularly with regard to emergency evacuation procedures. If the local authority don't consider the site able to safely evacuate a greater number of people in attendance than its current capacity does now then a licence for an increased capacity won't be issued. With the closure of the entrance/exit at the Alton Road end of the ground several years ago this reduces the capability of evacuating any supporters from that end of the ground. The last time the Guiness Stand was erected the number of seats it contained was met by a reduction in the capacity of the North Enclosure. Obviously if you can sell more seats you'll get more income particularly in the higher profile games with the attendance. I imagine for a number of clubs with large modern stadiums like Coventry, Sheffield United, Bolton, MK Dons, Charlton visiting our place will seem like a step back in time
