As stated above, he didnt say they would be good offers! It would potentially see us playing L1 football with what is still essentially a conference squad. Not a bad thing necessarily, and gives a good base to bring in a few more players in the summer, but not lose the excellent team spirit, which i feel is one of the biggest factors in our success of late. Disclaimer - all of this written whilst assuming we are going up, which we are!!! UTG How is it a conference squad? Because it is essentially the same squad we assembled in the conference. Not saying it is that standard, as it is clear that we are now more than a match for anyone in league 1, goes to show how much individuals have improved, and in my opinion, what a great manager we have.

i do think this contract policy is inspired and a big motivating factor,so im very impressed with it,,it may be that some will only be offered very short deals like trotman and balanta last season but it still gives such players a chance to impress What ever became of Trotman ? I thought he was a very decent player and was upset that he did not stay

Seems a bad move by him to leave then.
Did we miss him this season? Dont think so, James Clarke has been a more than good enough replacement, and is versatile.

I think he was really starting to come into his own up until the injury. I seem to remember that he was not offered to stay, unlike Monkhouse and he's another one I think we have missed

Short terms contracts are good as we aren't committed and it gives incentive to the players and could avoid complacency. The downside is that it isn't long before players can walk for free like Matty T. Players who suddenly come on leaps and bounds over a season (eg Montano, Bodin, Lockyer etc) can suddenly walk away for nowt and pocket a nice signing on fee elsewhere. Imo the players hold all the cards whatever the contract, as Muzzy Carayol showed when he forced his move. MT is coming to the end of his present 2 year contract so it was hardly a short term contract for him? Only Bodin was given a short term contract but that seems to have worked well for the player & club, so far the new approach hasn't led to us losing one player. So much for JW/NH giving the likes of Harrison 3 year deals!

He'll have to wait till after the playoffs though. Hey Dido, the automatics aren't out of the question yet.
