So apparently if we go up all the players will be offered a deal. Obviously the offers must vary and I am sure there are some players ala Lockyer and Brown DC would want to get signed up anyway.
How far does that extend. Has Gosling earned 12 months or more likely a 6 month deal seeing as he has fallen out of favour recently.
Does it extend to the likes of Lucas, Broom etc....

I read it as every single first team squad member, so I assume so.
Also safe to assume there will be plenty of 12month deals being put on the table. Which is decent for the likes of Gos & Harrison etc...has to be better than Newport or slipping down to the Vanarama again.

A brilliant incentive from the board to the players and one which they will richly deserve if they do get us up.

For the more cynical among us, Clarke only said that they'd be offered deals not that they'd be good deals.

I think that any squad who get promoted deserve to be rewarded. And to be fair, our first season in L1 last time around didn't turn out too badly.

I was guessing that this means everyone would get a 12 month contract offer at least equivalent or the same as what they have now. For some that will probably not be good enough so will move on like Monkhouse did last year and some will get improved offers. Either way everyone has a fall back option. Happy if that is the case as if we are fortunate enough to go up DC will need some room in his squad to improve it.

Went up to L1 few years back and first match was away to Port Vale.1-1 draw with Andy Williams scoring for us.Half hour drive for me.

I presume there will be a deadline set for players to accept the contract, I don't suppose Darrell will want to be hanging around for players considering their options for too long as he will want to be getting his squad together as early as possible particularly with the loan system changing next season.

i do think this contract policy is inspired and a big motivating factor,so im very impressed with it,,it may be that some will only be offered very short deals like trotman and balanta last season but it still gives such players a chance to impress

As stated above, he didnt say they would be good offers!
It would potentially see us playing L1 football with what is still essentially a conference squad. Not a bad thing necessarily, and gives a good base to bring in a few more players in the summer, but not lose the excellent team spirit, which i feel is one of the biggest factors in our success of late.

Not sure about the gap between L2 and top half of the Conference, but I think there is a gap between L2 and L1.
This is a general point, not an assumption we are going up.

Short terms contracts are good as we aren't committed and it gives incentive to the players and could avoid complacency.
The downside is that it isn't long before players can walk for free like Matty T. Players who suddenly come on leaps and bounds over a season (eg Montano, Bodin, Lockyer etc) can suddenly walk away for nowt and pocket a nice signing on fee elsewhere.
Imo the players hold all the cards whatever the contract, as Muzzy Carayol showed when he forced his move.
