....second visit for me on Monday.
First time was the Wayne Carlisle show when he dismantled a distinctly average team almost single handedly. Fab reward for supporters coach setting off at dawn! Think we won 2-0?
Wasn't allowed in Beehive pub for pre match tipples, was instead guided to nearby rugby club(WTF!?).
Anyway, I hope we take tons and are in good voice. Cheer us on to 7on the trot..
Safe journey to all that travel, Gas.

I've only been there once, quite a while back- we lost 3-1, and that's about all I can remember about it.

I've been there at least three times I think. Can't remember winning. I wasn't at the Wayne Carlisle match.
There's a pub (or hotel bar?) not far back up the road you come in on that welcomes away fans.
I remember one Rovers fan, very pissed, following Kevin Gall up and down the touchline going "meep meep". That was funny.

I went to Carlisle once in 2007, and a very long trip it was too. My memories are that we absolutely played them off the pitch in the first half, and went in at HT winning 1-0, but it should have been a couple more at least. But the second half was a different matter altogether, and the final score was 1-1. Andy Williams came on as a substitute and should have scored an easy goal. He was unmarked right in front of the goal, but instead of taking the easy option, he went for an exaggerated back-heel, which went tantalisingly past the far post. It really would have been easier to score.
The Carlisle United Supporters Club office is just down the road from Brunton Park, and it has a list of illustrious former players posted outside, one of which is Hughie McIlmoyle the former B*FC player. Oh and on leaving the ground in one of the Football Supporters Club coaches, some bright spark of a Carlisle supporter smashed one of the coach windows which meant a draughty drive home that evening.

I went in 1977,at the end of the season, Rovers were desperate for the TWO points to stay up. We went up a transit van (not minibus) about 12 of us sat on the floor in the back,it took hours. I doubt that there were a hundred Rovers supporters there and the team were losing 2-0 with about 15 minutes left anyway we scored 3 goals and I think that pretty well saved Rovers and relegated Carlisle...they weren't happy. I would have gone if it was a Saturday game but I don't fancy the bank holiday traffic so its radio Bristol for me.

I've been once, went up on the spur of the moment 2007/08 season I think reading Brizzle's account of the match sounds a bit familiar. I'd never been there before in my life and just woke up on the Saturday morning and thought "what the hell, I may as well go" , my pre sat nav days too so think I did well getting there. Imagine my surprise when at half time one of the guys who I travel with to home games from South Wales came up and said hello to me, he'd travelled up by train and had left home about 5.00 a.m. in the morning ! Judging by our away following this season it wouldn't surprise me if we got 1,000 travelling support which would be amazing. Looking forward to my 2nd visit

Been there many times, as my son lives just outside Carlisle and this weekend no different, any excuse to see the grand kids, thats worth the long journey alone, watching a Gas victory will make it even better. Sons father in law is a United fan so there is plenty friendly family rivalry going on in the village pub at the moment.

I've only been there once, quite a while back- we lost 3-1, and that's about all I can remember about it. Same here, must be the same game. From memory Cureton scored for us and Matt Lockwood got a pasting from their ginger right winger who used to play for Watford. They had a decent team with Matt Jansen at the time. also might have been the day Take That split up as i remember lots of crying on the coach, or that may have been the journey back....

Ive only been the once, on the opening day of the 95/96 season.
We won 2-1, I know Marcus Stewart got the winner but I cant quite remember who scored our first, Possibly Paul Miller?
I remember it being an extremely hot day and we had a superb following, we must of had 2000 up there, and we were in the terrace behind the goal which isn't in use anymore, I think away fans are now in the stand to the right?

It will be the first time for me - the furthest I've been to see the Gas in 50 years! The wife and daughter love Blackpool Pleasure Beach so we are taking that in too. They do the helter-skelter, I'll brave the little train that goes around the perimeter if there is one.

The last away game in 78 was at Hull, when Paul Randall scored to keep Rovers up. The scorers at Carlisle were,Dave Staniforth,Wayne powell and Jimmy Hamilton ,aaccording to the next home games programme,it also says that the 3 goals came in the last 7 minutes !

Never been, but thought I'd share a memory of 2001.
06/10/2001 was the date of the famous World Cup qualifier England 2 Greece 2, which featured Beckham's injury time equaliser to send us through to the finals.
That day I think Carlisle were the only team not to move their Kick-off for the fixture to avoid clashing. We lost 1-0.
There were 252 in the away end.
Now that was a fairly impressive away following for the time, and even more so when you consider you had one of our country's most important games being played at the same time, to tempt you from making the long journey.

My first visit was the hot August day that turned into a monsoon (the victory in 1995). Since then I've been another three or four times (but I have a two-hour start on those setting off from Bristol!).
Gasheads trooped away dispirited in October 2001, not only because of the 1:0 defeat, but also knowing that England were losing to Greece and would miss out on the Japan/Korea World Cup finals. By the time I got to the far end of the East Stand, Beckham had equalised!
The last game Rovers played at Brunton Park was the 4:0 defeat (in 2011, under Dave Penney). My memory of that game is that we were in control of the early stages, with Hoskins and Kuffour having good efforts in front of the Carlisle home-end. Then Gary Sawyer mis-controlled a ball in our penalty area which bounced up off his knee and caught the tip of his finger-nail before he cleared the danger. Clearly not deliberate, but the referee (Paul Tierney) raced to give the penalty. In the second half, Danny Coles did a full-blooded, old fashioned, fair tackle. But the referee applied the 21st century interpretation that it was reckless, and showed him a straight red card. The remaining half-hour probably sowed the seeds for our eventual relegation that season. I have some demons to exorcise tomorrow!

Two previous visits for me.
2003 - First away game of the season in August, left tesco Eastville on the SC coach at 6am. Ended up annoying the old biddies who run the coaches something rotten with a bit of 5 a side at Liverpool services. We drank in the rugby club just down the road from brunton park, I remember it having an away fans only room and were very friendly/welcoming. Anyway we won 2-0 in what I recall being a routine win, two first half goals by Wayne Carlisle himself. The journey home was great fun.
2011 - Went up to the game as part of the Blackpool weekender, fancy dressed as Freddie bloody Mercury. Not sure what I was thinking, but won first prize anyway!! Again we drank in the rugby club before the game, which ended up being one to forget. 3 - 1 defeat, Jeff Hughes got sent off for what was a dive by their forward & Ricky Shakes came on for one of his very few Rovers appearances. Hoping for a much better experience tomorrow.
Leaving at half 6 on the minibus, will take a point from this one!

A few years ago, living where I do, the train route then was into London up to Newcastle and across to Carlisle. Coming back some poor soul jumped in front of the train before mine and I was stuck on the train at Newcastle with hen parties, stag parties,18 parties, 21 parties, any reason to have a party parties for some time. By the time we got into London all trains had stopped. Those with ongoing tickets had to honoured and so I was put in a taxi to get me home which cost £125.
