Being a long time gashead fifty years plus,I was so pleased to see Geoff back as a with Rovers I remember the last days at Eastville when Geoff and his father saved the Rovers ,

I don't think that Geoff has ever gone away but it is great to see the new owners giving him the honour that he was entitled to and denied to him by the previous owners.

I don't think that Geoff has ever gone away but it is great to see the new owners giving him the honour that he was entitled to and denied to him by the previous owners. Maybe he could now learn to apologise to a woman he firstly accused of having an agenda against him and then threatened with litigation ? Then again, I'll not hold my breath. Every bit as bad a Nick Higgs IMO. For a supposed Christian, I don't see his actions appear to reflect this at all. |

Not difficult to understand. It is shown in action and the ability to not court controversy and look to give people the benefit of the doubt. I"ll let this go as I can see I am in a minority and it's not worth pursuing. I will watch this with interest and hope it goes well |

Is this like the Rovers equivalent of failed politicians going to the House of Lords? He might well be entitled but sure as hell doesn't deserve it. See also Higgs, Bradshaw, Ware etc. |

Really ? You obviously never tried to engage in a Twitter dialogue with him. Using threat of litigation was a regular thing and I believe being Christian is more about action than talk. It became personal after the Mansfield game. A real Christian would at least try to reconcile & find ways not to agitate and push. It really isn't hard to see but it also depends upon perspective. If you've not been targeted then it maybe more difficult to understand but there are many instances where he was the agitator. As I said, I really will leave it at that. I do hope that with this new spirit of glasnost will see this work out well. |

KP, years ago several of us used to goad Geoff on the official forum. It wasn't meant to be malicious, more an attempt at humour. Unfortunately, in hindsight some of the invective and tone of mine and others words was often unpleasant and personal. I see that now and have done for a considerable time. Geoff is well within his rights to defend himself if he sees that sort of thing happening again. (I don't have Twitter so can't comment on particular discussions that may have been had).
He had the balls to post on a forum when Rovers were struggling and on occasion, he responded in a way that he too would no doubt regret. It's not all black and white and it wouldn't surprise me if Geoff wishes he'd never heard of social media.

I don't know Geoff, I have heard some good, and some awful things about him. What I don't understand was the clamour to get him appointed as a VP. I find it odd when people think they are 'entitled to honours' (IF Geoff does indeed feel that way).
Isn't a VP pretty meaningless anyway? It's not like he won the Easter Cup or anything.

It's a Bristol Rovers tradition. So to not offer him a VP is inconsistent, petty and blatantly unfair. If success was a prerequisite, the position wouldn't even exist. |

Anybody in a "position of authority" is always going to be open to banter, ridicule and abuse. GD got plenty, some of it justified, much of it not. I also think it's fair to say that he could have handled it better. |

If you're constantly getting slated, it's easy to over react to the more genuine or constructive stuff. If I remember correctly, the spat with your good lady was down to photos of him smirking after the Mansfield game. My own view is that GD's pain must have been every bit as acute as mine. Not least because he was partially responsible and he had significant sums of money tied up in the club. He would have been just as angry and numb as the rest of us. Thankfully I didn't have to endure the wrath of other fans as I was leaving the ground. If I had, I would probably have done more than smirk at them. Obviously GD has a responsibility to act in an appropriate manner but, in all honesty, I thought those photos and the storm they created were unfair on him. |

Well I had my own major fall out with him nearly ten years ago, but we now always have polite and cordial conversations whenever I bump into him and that was as recently as the AGM. I think his role in the Twerton years is rather underplayed certainly when I first became involved in the club around about 1994 I got the impression that he was chair in all but name. To be honest I was a little confused at first as I had assumed that Denis was the driving force, but he wasn't. There is no doubt that Denis was a very important element of the Twerton years but it was Geoff who did most of the work from what I could see and he who managed the move to the Mem which was the time when I really got to know him well. So yes, the honour is well deserved and long overdue. His one area of weakness is that he doesn't 'do' conflict too well as I found out and that is why down the years he has come across in a way that is not a true reflection of who he really is (in my experience). As Dr F says perhaps he should have given social media a wide birth but like many others when it was born it was like a drug that few of us could resist, it just seemed like the right thing to do. For me this is another good day for Bristol Rovers, lets hope for many more in the weeks to come! |
