To those above a certain age: Remember the five-all game against Charlton at Eastville in 1978? Here's a link to a video with all ten goals. Rovers 5 Charlton 5 (November 1978 at Eastville)(You have to fast forward to the 42 second mark, unless you want to see West Ham against Palace first).

Thanks for some great memories. I seem to remember that is was all the more incredible because it was 5 all by mid way through the second half.

I remember feeling a bit ill before the game and thinking I might give it a miss, but changing my mind at the last minute because I hadn`t missed a home game. Great decision as it turned out.
As an aside I think it was this game in which one of our mates thought it would be a good idea to set fire to my brothers bell bottom jeans at half time. Not sure you`d get away with that sort of behaviour nowadays....

I was listening to "afternoon delight" (capital radio) as the goals rained in - I remember the DJ making some comment about both teams taking to the field without goalkeepers!

12 year old me was there too, never seen anything like it. Think there was still something like 25 minutes left too. Best bit was a schoolmate had given me his season ticket for North stand as he couldn't go, what a game to miss lol.

We watched most of the second half in the bar in the South Stand with Frankie Prince who was injured.

We watched most of the second half in the bar in the South Stand with Frankie Prince who was injured. When i look at those old wooden stands now apart from the teenage memories i think about the bradford fire and how that probably could have happened at eastville, always seem to remember old newspapers etc about. I went to the bradford game early 84, got called off about 2pm, so spent a couple of hours drinking with some bradford lad in a near by pub with topless barmaids, happy days!!

Eastville or many others. It's incredible that there are still wooden stands in use today.

David Williams' first goal very similar to Monty's at Newport.

Now that brings back some memories. That was my 3rd year of watching the gas. 41 years of up and downs.
This is the most hopeful I ever been other than Francis years, but that was more youthful exuberance.

The reality was that Day versus Flanagan (Hales did not play) was a no-contest, but less so than Day versus Steve Kindon (who ran him ragged every time he appeared).
I blame Radio Bristol for the dropped point! I had had a 100% home record from the North Enclosure in 77-78 season but had been sucked into winning the Radio Bristol "Mystery voice" the week before and I was given a stand ticket as a prize. At 5-5, I jumped out of the Stand and back into the North Enclosure. However, only 65 minutes had been played when we equalised to make it 5-5. Not the greatest of Paul Randall hat-tricks, but they all count.
The week after we beat Sheff United 2-1 (who had Alex Sabella of Argentina playing) and it was only Millwall who ruined our home record with a "sinister Eastville atmosphere: 0-3 loss" in Dec (9th), the year after the infamous Panorama (Nov 5 1977).
Please note that we made it onto December 1st remembered in the same series. Another 10-goal thriller, but then we had Mike Green, not Graham Day.
