There are loads of articles reliving the infamous relegation - I think they are totally unnecessary and Saturday's game has nothing to do with the last home game v Mansfield.
Maybe one small article could have mentioned it, but they seem to take great delight in digging that game up again. So we have "players who left the club", players who stayed", "what the Mansfield Evil Post reporter recalls", "what Rovers fans recall", on and on - I'm sure the 'teds are loving every word!
I could understand it a bit if Saturday's game was a decider on promotion/playoff place/relegation but it's not - Mansfield are just another team who we need to dispense with as far as this season goes.

Some of our fans are as bad, calling it a 'revenge match'. We put ourselves down and the bloke who scored did what he was paid to do. I wish they would drop this nonsense, it's embarrassing.

It was probably the most emotional day in our history and the scars still run deep. Every Rovers fan whether they were at the game or not can remember exactly how they felt (and where they were if not at the game).

I know its become a cliche, but that doesn't stop it being true: the fact that game was less than 2 seasons ago still blows my mind.

It now serves as one of the key failures of the previous regime. In some ways perhaps Basel was right that demotion to the conference would help reset the club. We should be giving this game more attention for symbolic reasons.

Two thoughts ;
1 - What has it got to do with Mansfield that we were plagued by wasters that season ? They got us relegated not Mansfield.
2 - As it turns out have Mansfield not done us a massive favour ? Had we managed to stay up that season does anyone honestly think we'd be challenging for promotion now , or been taken over by someone who can actually appreciate , manage and deliver the clubs potential for the first time in decades ?

The only focus should be three points & maybe what is happening elsewhere in regards to play off rivals.
Could not give a crap about Mansfield/Colin Daniel, just another side we will need to beat it we want to be toppling Oxford of Plymouth.

I stand to be corrected and heckled here but I can't see any positives in us going down to the Conference in Summer 2014. It was heart breaking, embarrassing and it could have ended up far worse than it has done (thank God Manse kept his nerve). Had we survived and got a last minute equaliser against Mansfield I think we could still have been where we are now. DC in Summer 14 would have got rid of most of the players, just as he did, the board might have stayed in place, just as they did, he would have started the next season with a fresh set of his players, just as he did, he would have kept the defence, just as he did. I think we would have had a good season in Div 4 last year and be where we are now. I do not have the romantic view of last season as others do. I enjoyed the games and going to places where I met real fans, but we should never have been there. We did what we had to do and you can only beat what's put in front of you, which we did, but TBH the biggest fault of the BOD over the past 10 or so years was the lowering sense of expectation that we as fans had to adapt to (and that's from a fan who felt NH etc did pretty well over the past 18 months to get us back in league). We should never have been in that position but DC came up trumps and righted a wrong. But I will never see that relegation as anything other than a mind numbing disaster.

DC would have had to deal with L2 with a budget that had no chance of competing and I think that it would have seen us in a continual struggle as NH continued to fritter away our only asset. Remember this is a man who wanted to stay in place, as a director, with the new owners taking control. I am of the opinion that we can take many positives from it. I think that, had we stayed up, we would have been in an ever decreasing cycle of relegation dogfights and with crowds dwindling, our budget on players would have been cut even more. Credit where it's due, DC has had a budget cut this season but has somehow managed to get us within a whisker of another possible promotion. Heres to keeping up the momentum and in having big expectations, for a change |

I wasn't necessarily thinking of JM but I wasn't aware of that rather tedious way of processing a report so thanks for enlightening me.
Again not necessarily JM (or even Bristol Post) but a lot of stories that first arise on the forums suddenly end up on the local back pages over the following days?
Smacks of lazy journalism and even spelling mistakes if not picked up by a proof reader originate from the journalist.

All The Post is interested in is column inches, and as long as there is enough substance to some of them to keep at least the lowest common denominator coming back then The Post will keep re-hashing them. This is why, weeks after the case had gone to trial, they were still milking the murder of poor Becky Watts with stories of one of her killer's alleged lesbian flings in prison. Most people would just want to see them locked up and forgotten about, but since there will always be others who are drawn to such stories then the story will run. It boosts circulation figures/page views and so attracts advertisers - you only have to attempt to get from one end of a story to the other on their website to see that they value their advertisers more than their readers.
There's quite a low limit to how much I care about what they print about us. As for the teds loving every word, I expect they just wonder what the words say and why all the pictures are already coloured in.
