Bristol Rovers have today completed the loan signing of Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie, who has signed a deal which will see him remain at The Memorial Stadium for the remainder of the season. Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said this afternoon; “I’m delighted to be able to bring Oliver to the club and wish him every success while he’s with us. “He is a highly rated young player and has had brief experience of playing in League Two this season with Newport. “He was recalled early from that spell in order so that he could train with Swansea’s first team squad and it’s really pleasing that they have allowed him to join us on loan until the end of the season. “We have picked up a few injuries of late and his arrival will not only enable to cover the absences of the players involved, but also add to competition for places in our first team squad.” The 20 year old graduated through the ranks at Bradford City, though he did appear in the 2013 Milk Cup for Manchester United, and made 15 league appearances for The Bantams before signing for Swansea last summer in a three year deal. Last season he spent time on loan with Conference outfit Chester City, and he scored their consolation goal when they slipped to a 5-1 defeat at The Memorial Stadium last April. Loaned out to Newport County earlier this season, he scored a 23 minute hat trick on his debut, against Luton Town and was recalled by Swansea after two more games for The Exiles. The deal is subject to international clearance and Rovers are hoping that the Scottish U-19 and U-21 international will be able to take his place in Darrell Clarke’s squad for the visit of AFC Wimbledon tomorrow. Now that is a very good signing, a friend of mine i used to work with is a Bradford fan and used to mention him a lot, was highly rated at Bradford and he was disappointed that they sold him. Could this be the start of our new owners and chairman using there contacts already?

I hope he's sorted his shinpads out since he played for Chester against us. They were a disgrace.

Very lively striker, think he shone out like a beacon for a poor Chester side last season and highly thought of at Swansea City.
Welcome to the Gas Olly.

Is it the Swansea link with the chairman, wot swung the loan for us do you think? Either that or a big coincidence, take your pick! I guess we can assume he fits the criteria set by DC in terms of hunger, professional and accepting of a squad mentality, he looks like he has plenty in the locker, poacher, good header of the ball and creates plenty of space for himself to have a go from distance. Good timing on his part with the club spirit being the way it is.

Has Mr Hamer got any links to the current Swansea regime? McBurney looks like the sort of striker who will live and die by the quality of the supply of crosses; let's hope we can get the ball to his head regularly!

He should do well in div 2; DC better sign a winger, who can beat his full back and get a decent cross in, or the lad is not going to get much service.

good to see a player with this potential coming on board,.......and as an aside to it, where does this leave Rory Fallon? , not seen him in action personally but with the intention of McBurney getting straight into the starting 11 against Wimbledon ,subject to clearance, what is /are his chances of getting more play time with BRFC

I've seen trees looking more mobile than Fallon has looked in his brief appearances so far. A blunt instrument for when we're desperate, at best.

I guess he would start on the bench but you never know & I also guess Fallon would not be best pleased, given the terms on which he is with us. Having said that, I was very vocal about getting loans in then not using them and Alex Henshall is the standout on that. I would imagine it wouldn't endear us to the lending clubs as they would want their players getting experience eh ?

Hmm sounds like a tasty little signing, but can't help wonder why we haven't just given Jamie Lucas a go since he seems to have played a similar number of games at Conference level with a similar scoring record...

Could this also suggest that Easter not impressed the boss much & he has identified OMcB as an ideal replacement for Rory Gaffrney short term rather than rely on Jermaine or Fallon.

Maybe, but I am happy for Jamie Lucas to get games and develop away from the Mem for a bit

He has been injured and barely played for 18 months/2 years.
We gave him the opportunity to train with us and get fit and have kept him as an option on non contract terms and he will be able to go elsewhere if he/the club wants.

Boreham have just signed another striker/wide player on loan and are in the relegation area. Still he should hopefully be learning.
