Nine years ago, after 31 games, Rovers were in 10th place in League Two, on 43 points. We were seventeen points off the third automatic promotion place. And eight points off the play-off places, with a game in hand. In the remaining fifteen games, we drew five and lost two, to finish on 72 points and in sixth place. Three successive wins in the play-offs delivered promotion to League One.
This season, after 31 games, Rovers are in 7th place in League Two, on 50 points. Eight points off the third automatic promotion place, with a game in hand.

I was thinking about that season only last night. As I remember it, we started to push on after the narrow defeat in the Johnstons paint trophy. I don't think many of us really believed that we had any chance of play off let alone promotion. I remember the game at the Millenium stadium and us being 2 down before I even managed to take my coat off and get properly seated. That team really did pull out the stops.

The eight points with a game in hand is not a relevant comparison because the side that finishes third will be better and gain more points over the rest of the season than the side(s) we overhauled to reach the playoffs were that season.
Incidentally, I feel very sorry for the Stockport fans after what they've been through and sincerely hope to see them in the League again soon, but under Jim Gannon I disliked them intensely.

Jim Gannon took over as manager a few weeks ago, I guess we will see what he's really made of in the next few years.

That's true - I am weirdly conflicted about Stockport. They are my local club, their fans are great and have been through hell. Edgeley Park is also a proper old school football ground and a great place to watch a game (although they should reintroduce terracing). Yet the Gannon thing still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth and I've never quite been able to embrace them fully.
