It's a Shame Hamer didn't stop to think that perhaps some of us like travelling long distances for evening mid week games (result pending in most cases I guess). Sounds mental, but it's true.
Hartlepool away last season was a brilliant trip!

its one mans opinion on what he thinks would be best.
Dont think you need to get to worked up when 60 odd clubs would have to vote for it

"There are other ways of dealing with long distance night matches" - go on, then...... "It is worrying that our chairman can set sail and express a view such as this and not really be in touch with the fans" - go on, then...which fans? Those of us who feel strongly that the Football League should be a national competition? You could deal with long distance night matches by not playing them midweek. But then the occasional long distance midweek game isn't really a problem, is it? Better things to worry about in football. The colour of player's boots, for a start. Stop speaking so much sense, Ast! Haha! We should be a big enough club to cope with the odd one or two long distance night matches. Otherwise we would be stifled by geography and face same opponents/players every season. It's not just about the 90mins. I would like to see our players face challenges of clubs all sizes, all over the country. And for fans, the opportunity to explore local interest and tourist attractions as well as the match. I've done Darlington away on Tuesday night with supporters club mini bus in 80s! That's my badge of honour.. Yep, I'm exercising the right to be mental. Am proud of it. Hamer is an old man with ideas and comments that exclude a percentage of fans that don't identify with it.

Anybodies ideas are likely to upset/disappoint some people. I wouldnt worry about SHs opinion on this unless he has some sort of ominipotent power over the FL clubs or 60 odd other chairman agreed with him SH even says no one would vote for 6 down. Its his opinion which he knows is extremely unlikely to ever happen Im a youngish but not as young as i was man and i wouldnt mind seeing the FL refreshed a bit. It has happened numerous times over 100 odd years Ps if you want to explore someone have a weekend break with a significant other

Dont think you need to get to worked up when 60 odd clubs would have to vote for it Except he's possibly the man with club's vote at the AGM (depending on how much rope Wael has granted him, anyway) so if he's fundamentally at odds with what some of us want to see, its right we should be worked up, a little at least. Its easy for people who won't be materially affected to say 'I don't mind the league being shaken up a bit' and that's fine, its a valid opinion, but I like spending my time and money travelling the (whole) country watching Rovers. I like the Football League as it is. I'd be bored going to Oxford/Yeovil/Swindon/Cheltenham/Exeter every single season if it was never interspersed with trips up North. The better grounds are up North, for a start.

I get that he has our vote, but it comes across that his opinion he knows unlikely even if he tables it As a paid employee i expect a consensus would have to be agreed by the board or decreed by WAQ anyway. Maybe the SC directors can locate the elusive Mr Hamer that everbody else seems to be able to find

I like the fact that we have a chairman who is happy to come out and talk about all things football, who is more than happy to talk to James McNamara at the BEP. I think Hamer has done more chats with JMc at the BEP than Higgs did in the last 3 years, like others have said it's one mans opinion, i'm glad he his happy to come out and engage with the fans, rather than hide behind pointless previous regime weekly/fortnightly chairmans reports that kept Steve Hood busy.

Hang on. Steady with the outcry. In a local rag piece about the league AGM, in which he was asked about his views on that other proposal, he said 'if the league wanted to restructure.... I'd prefer to look at...'. He hasn't tabled a motion, launched a campaign, made it club policy, or even raised the subject himself. It's his personal view on virtually a non-subject, and he gave it. He can do that without consulting the fan base, imo. Elsewhere, though, it's good to see this old thread. It all seemed good news, though there was a slight wariness, proof of the pudding and all that... So far, and it's an on-going process, the pudding's a very good one!

Nothing wrong with that; so much better to suggest the controversial, than just asking for people's opinions.

Seems from this thread Steve Hamer is as out of touch with the fans views as Jim Chappell was with his Jottings. Wonder if Steve Hamer asked any fans their views on this before talking in his position as Chairman of BRFC?

Wonder if Steve Hamer asked any fans their views on this before talking in his position as Chairman of BRFC? Hamer's chaiman of the board of directors (apparent de facto CEO) though, not a supporters organisation representative. This is a single issue, and I don't think he's out of touch. I see it as above, floating an idea to canvas support.

JC was entitled to his opinion. I didnt agree My complaint was not his opinion, but that it was the first time i heard the SC speak out when there has been worse to stand up against. Snide digs at presential visits dont help either

It is worrying that our chairman can set sail and express a view such as this and not really be in touch with the fans. To a degree Hartlepool on a Tuesday night was on my list to do and I only achieved it this season having only been there on Saturdays. The away end was practically full and I think he has not really gauged the passion of the Gas. I understand our chairman spoke against the EFL Cup change, which was not how I interpreted the lead up - I apologise to him unreservedly. I shall think of a suitable penance.

I'm just staggered by this thread
Its patently obvious that the appropriate response to the thread title of 'its too good to be true' is 'I love you Rory.....'
sometimes I just wonder why I bother
