If it wasn't for Gloucester Rd I would probably despise going to The Mem For me living in Downend getting to the Mem is a pain in the arse, it's not even that far but I find I have to leave around 12.15 so as to get to park somewhere near, then getting home takes bloody ages! I take 3 kids who moan about getting there so early ect. Before kids I spent from 12 onwards on the Gloucs rd drinking ect so I get that of course, but to be able to walk to the stadium for me would enhance my match day experience no end. Then I could have a few pints too :-)

I'd definitely rather stay at the mem and near the glos road than moved to a 'cookie cutter' scaled down version of the madjeski. Having all the pubs and food places on our door step is a big part of the match day experience.
Like others have said, if we got rid of the tent and replaced it with a proper stand - that would be a good start to refurbishing the mem and making it a home to be proud of.

Maybe that is why they want to buy the two strips of land next to the UWE.

I somehow don't think that is going to happen. If you had any money to invest, now would be the time to buy a plot of land near the UWE and build a pub/restaurant on it, match days and students in it all week, you'd make a killing

A renovated Mem would keep the long term fans going to games,a move to UWE would lose some,I don't know where new fans would come from.

Don't get me wrong I have a serious attachment to the Mem having attended since the early 60's but obviously then as a rugby supporter. I seriously doubt the new investors are going to remain at the Mem, despite the 'attractions' of the Gloucester Road. I think Bristol Rugby provide transport from there to Trashton on match days, maybe we could consider doing similar to UWE but I honestly think our days at the Mem are numbered. Fans will come regardless, in some instances success will bring them, in others better facilities, some of us already travel serious distances on match day and never go anywhere near the Gloucester Road.

Are not UWE students different to those of Bristol University in that fewer of them are as wealthy?

You cannot make a silk purse out of a pigs arse and the pigs arse is the Mem. Even if you rebuilt it the total you could squeeze in is 18000. Plus you need food outlets, bars and shops, and a decent car park you cant get that at the Mem it is land locked, plus Radsish would not allow it. Even City had to buy more land for their ground, AND they have a park and ride site not too far away. At the UWE we will have everything we need, and the best bit? We will all be under cover in the dry AND we will all have a good view.
