....on BRFC Appreciation page on Facebook. Someone called Andy Adams said: "Just heard some very interesting news.... Huge announcement next week apparently... Club being bought out... American takeover .....UWE stadium will go ahead....smaller than planned...but without Sainsburys investment...... watch this space. UTG." Building it smaller seems like a false economy to me. You'd save a few quid at the outset but have to spend it several times over to extend if or when we needed to.
As for the takeover rumour, I'll just wait and see what happens. Seems odd that anything would happen prior to the appeal judgement?

Seems like a weekly thing, Jordanian, American. I still can not understand this build it smaller thing, by the time you have gone back to planning etc, you may as well have built it as planned, unless the plan is to do a MK Dons build it but not put the seats in.

It sounds like a compilation album of all your favourite rumours. Who / what was it in the 80s or 90s that used to mash a load of hits into one reworked single in a fairly nails down a blackboard way? Jive Bunny? Or did I hallucinate that?
The thing that gets me about these breathless 'guess what I know, but I can't tell you the details' people is: if you know the full story but can't give it, don't; if you don't have backup info, park it as dodgy; failing that, say something sensible. Don't just be dropping meaningless hints and key words in the hope one of them might come true. What's the point? Try yoga.
JTS's line had credibility because it gave the principles rather than spurious but meaningless detail - and they tallied with other things. These occasional 'guess what I just heard' (it's always 'just heard') attempts to grab attention fall into the number one bear trap in dissembling: unsubstantiated over-elaboration.
I'm on hold until the Court of Appeal verdict.

The local development plan for South Glos allows for the provision of an all seater sports stadium of up to 22,000. We have planning permission for a 21,700 all seater stadium. South Glos planning authority will not approve anything less. Why build anything smaller, you only need to consider what happens at other stadia like Doncaster or Rotherham to see the restrictions it puts upon a club when compared to teams like Swansea or Hull and their comparative success. I'm afraid I'm in the category of fan who won't believe any of this consortium rumour stuff until the new stadium is actually built and I'm literally sitting in it to watch our first match. I'm finding it difficult to understand that people (either of American or Jordanian persuasion) will want to invest £40 million into a mostly unsuccessful English League 2 football team, what the hell do they think they are going to benefit from it ? Sorry if that offends any of those 'in the know' types......I'll wait with interest for this major announcement later on today but for obvious reasons I'm not going to be holding my breath.......

I for one 'can' see why a foreign consortium might want to buy our club.
There is massive potential, this is a club that can take 3,000 fans to an away game and take 40k to a cup final.
BRFC could grow under a consortium and possibly might be the only way the club can ever move forward. The present board do not and will not ever have the personal finance required to take BRFC forward and meet the same dizzy heights as Swansea Hull or Reading.
But unfortunately as stated above, this is just another rumour and I agree with Bridgeman, until I am sat in the elusive stadium watching that elusive first game, I will not believe it.

Many consider that the stadium alone with all its facilities would be worth building. The income from the stadium must be more than that from a League 2 side (currently in debt) surely, and to get that team up into the Premier would require many more millions.
Cynics believe the current board are just waiting for the payday from a new stadium.
As fans we are team-centred, investors are money/stadium centred.

Well i see the turks are taking over at crawley, so who knows. Maybe its a buy out by IS, we could then be the black arabs again, change the strip to all black, sadly the booze and pastys will have to go, but at least everyone will give 100% or face getting stoned to death at full time.

For the love of cheese, another I know something on Facebook rumour.
Let's add another one then, I've heard it's being built upside down, there you go, has about as much credibly as the previous endless rumours.
How hard is it to calculate that no announcement will be made until current legal proceedings have ended, at which point negotiations can take place to establish the value of the deal.
Until Swiss Gas pops up and says I'm not involved in this then I suspect the American connection holds some water, as for others time will tell.
Gasheads are wondering why anyone would invest in a league two club, well as has been pointed out there is a sleeping wider fan base to rely on should investment and subsequent success be achieved.
The original plans stated a full length bar to serve as two separate rooms or one complete room with a 3000 capacity and a music license on a huge student campus, a stadium that could also entertain bigger gigs within the parameters of the stadium pitch and stands.
Was it not mentioned recently that the club has 12 confidential agreements in place? If so, it has to be safe to assume that plenty is going on, it would be baffling though if a deal was sealed prior to the appeal judges passing down the decision with Sainsbury's, just an opinion like!

'relaxing Mother's Day lunch' = emergency Board meeting 'a four course carvery dinner' = agenda item for sale of club to AN Other 'all mothers' = the current Board of Directors (no smirking please) 'a box of chocolates' = a return on their shareholding

That is my understanding so any reduced capacity stadium should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Conversely, I gather if a developer wishes to increase it to 27k, it would not need full planning permission.

Just more bollocks. The UWE would need new planning permission to be made smaller, and yes it is a false economy. If anything it should be made larger

Yes it can built to 26k with an amendment to the original pp, a rubber stamp with south glos. Ultimately can go to 35k but i think that would require a new application.

Ultimately it could go up to 180k but we're unlikely to ever require it.

Ultimately it could go up to 180k but we're unlikely to ever require it. Well the thing is with some predicting away followings of 15,000+ in this League, we'd fill a 180,000 seater stadium easily should we go up the leagues
