What about this stupid idea?:
From next season, make the next day (or evening) a provisional day to complete the fixture on postponed matches?
Who knows how many matches could be played if 24hours were allowed to prepare a pitch fit for purpose?
And Sundays, especially now, have been assimilated into the football curriculum..

Say it Portsmouth was called off, it gives people the opportunity to get refunds on train tickets and then plan for a trip 6-10 weeks later. If it was played the next day those on the trains would have to pay £££ to change their ticket and leave them out of pocket. People also have shift work that they may not be able to change effecting their ability to attend. Give people enough time to re-arrange their travel. Football is for the benefit of supporters not just getting fixtures done.

Also, I think statistically fans travel more privately. If yesterdays match was rearranged for today, I don't think the attendance would be much less.

It's too short notice, people have lifes away from football.

I'm not aware of cricket doing it regularly outside of tournaments where getting the games played is necessary to move on. Cricket is actually a terrible example, they don't even replay most abandoned matches at all.
Football does it at major tournaments occasionally, like at Euro 20?? in Poland/Ukraine. But that's for television and sponsorship reasons and most travelling fans will be committed to being in the area anyway.
Its a terrible idea for run of the mill league games.

You're losing this battle I wouldn't be able to go today, so you're at least one down on yesterday's attendance. But in reality I think you'd lose at least a thousand off the gate. A beery Sunday holds infinitely less attraction than a beery Saturday for most working people I know, for a start!

I've already won it, Asty old bean......i did say at the start it was a stupid idea! *wink!* But there's nothing wrong with exploring concept. And if it brings others into the debate, all the better.

I've got an even worse one: all postponements result in a five point deduction. That'd make them get the games on

It's all to do with the police. They require at least 7 days notice of rearranged fixtures. Nothing to do with TV.

I can see what you mean in latter rounds, but scheduling replays a week later revolves around how tv will cope. Granted, most replays aren't televised. Bt it gives the stations time to cherry pick the ones they want to bid for. Police aren't paid for unless they enter the stadium.
