My understanding is that one of their few duties is to:
'Maintaining decorum in the teams' technical areas and interceding in situations where coaches, bench personnel, or substitutes become agitated'
So why wasn't any action taken against Argyle manager and assistant manager at least in the first half who were regularly out of their area / complaining constantly about decisions to the fourth official
Guess it is why football is in such mess imo - no respect for officials generally / leads to 'professional' fouls being allowed to go unpunished / players haranguing officials etc ....FA ad FA both culpable
The referee yesterday had a shocker - missed at least 4 bookable offences in the first half - should have made a precedent early on and failed to do so

Perhaps he thought he had by booking Parkes, but then clearly failed to follow it up by allowing them to get away with numerous things, including the elbow on Gaffney

How often do you see goalkeepers time wasting from about 60/70 minutes, given about 5 warnings and only booked in the 90th minute?

Think you could widen the question to "Why are most officials ineffective?". Would be nice to at least see some consistency in the decision making asvInassume they have all been issued with the same copy of the rule book.

I thought the officials did okay yesterday, doubtless some decisions would be proven wrong if viewed again, but I suspect many more would be proved right. Meanwhile thousands (literally) of fans bayed for non existent handballs and fouls in the hope of influencing a decision or maybe perhaps they were just caught up in the atmosphere of a very good game. Players appealed for throw ins, corners, goal kicks and free kicks, when they knew full well they weren't valid claims, and no doubt several of those players dived when tackled hoping to gain an advantage by cheating.
Who'd be a ref eh?

Fourth officials are an official and can at the referees discretion give decisions.

Fourth officials are an official and can at the referees discretion give decisions. Yeh, usually by getting over exuberant managers sent to the stands

Who'd be a ref eh? Generally i agree, however considering the early caution for Parkesy the ref gave a few decisions and never booked anyone else til latr in the game. There was a blatant pull back that the ref gave to us in the second half and the Arglye player never got booked,.but i thought a shirt pull was a bookablr offence now, unless they have changed the laws again
