Have you been to the away games at Oxford, Portsmouth, Wycombe, Birmingham and numerous others? The home games where we were suffering under Ward and the crowd stood behind the manager and refused to turn on the team as they maybe have before?
People will cite abuse from the terraces that our players get. Look up the Wycombe footage after we beat them at the end of last season. The abuse they were getting was disgraceful. What did they do? next week they went away on the final day, won, and stayed up. I'm not saying its a positive, my point is other clubs are exactly the same and have professionals playing for them and management in place that get the job done despite these issues.
My point? For the vast vast majority of games our support is superb and deserves much better than we get. We take more fans on the road to big games than half the teams we are getting beaten by pull into their home ends on a Saturday afternoon. We make more noise than almost anyone in our league or surrounding leagues and we create a terrific atmosphere for our players to play in away from home. We were rewarded with two league wins last season.
I am sick of being told to be positive and seeing anyone raising completely legitimate concerns being slated as 'putting players off signing for the club' or some utter rubbish.
It is not time to suddenly get behind the team as if we have just noticed they might need us... we have been getting behind the team and if the board or a manager wants to come out and blame the support they are welcome to try but it would be absolutely astonishing because the support has been the only positive at this club for a long time now.
It is time for the board, the management and the playing staff to give something back.
I and the vast majority of this forum will be there supporting the team on the opening day. In the mean time if people want to criticise Clarke for signing only ex players (Salisbury for Clarke, Colchester for Ward - dejavu?), the Board for running the club into the basement division or screwing up the stadium project completely then that is their prerogative. As far as i'm concerned the fans have earnt the right to be critical, and they have also earnt the right to get results, and answers from the board. Lets hope at least the former will be fortcoming once the season is underway.
