Jamie Cureton scored four and Jason Roberts 2 All six scored in the second half and no goals for Barry Hayles. Were you one of the 13,000 fans at Reading that wonderful Saturday afternoon. I was.

I was. An unbelievable day, not least because it came in the very average season between the two good ones.

Yep, I was there!
Quite an unremarkable first half, then we burst into life. All played out in front of us as th goals were scored in net closest to away end.
That's my record away win I've seen live.

And in true Rovers style, we went on and signed their goalkeeper.

What a game!! I drove back from Germany to watch it; on the way home I got caught by the peelers doing an average of 114 Mph over a 4 mile stretch. Probably due, in part to adrenalin and the fact that I'd forgotten that I wasn't on the autobahn anymore!! Luckily I managed to talk the copper around as we had certain things in common and I walked away with just a talking too!!! ?

Some b'stard gave me a thick ear after the game through my open window at a red traffic light.

Although we went in to the break 0-0, we were well on top in the first half too. The talk at the interval was hoping we didn't end up ruing not having taken advantage of our possession and territory. Well, we needn't have worried about that!
The stadium had not long been built, but the roads feeding it seemed a long way from being finished. We could just about get reception of Radio Bristol outside the ground, and the result and listening to the phone in made the hour long wait to get out the car-park worthwhile!

Just looked at the stats.
We finished 13th in 1998/99. Reading finished 11th.
We beat reading 4-1 at home in August, so aggregate was 10-1 to Gas.
Going up were: Fulham (Keegan as manager). Walsall (wtf!?). Man City.
So, not too much competition then?!
