With the news that all but Sinclair and Easter are out of contract in the summer I hope we'll be seeing some developments in the coming weeks with tieing players down to longer deals. What would you like to see happen?
Lockyer - I know we hate 3 year contracts, but I'd give this guy one every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. No silly haircuts or tattoos just a hardworking lad that everyone whose met raves about his personality. I think it's too early to make predictions as to whether he's a future League One or Championship player or whatever, but even if he doesn't leave us for a big fee he could be a cornerstone of our defense for years to come and could even be captain next season if McCrystal leaves/Mansell sees his playing time reduced.
Parkes - Has come back superbly since his Newport shocker, he might've not lived up to what we expected when he first came in all those years ago, but certainly a solid defender and his aggression and left foot compliment the composure of Lockyer. Certainly worth 2 years.
Brown - Mr consistent, would love to see him on our left side for another 2 years.
They would be my top 3 priorities and I'd be happy to get Taylor, Harrison, James Clarke and Leadbitter sorted out too.

I'd give Gaffney five years.

Brilliant post, kwGas!
Locks is far and above what many Gas fans have seen.
He's just way ahead of what I consider a 4th division player should be. Proven.
Everyone else follows him.. Offer him the family jewels cos we won't find another like him..
I would try to keep most, but Locks is the key to success..

I can't believe that is the situation and would like to think the club are actively negotiating contracts. We now have a squad of players I trust and some of them are definitely worth 2 years to tie them down.

I would let Mildenhall,Puddy,Gosling and Harrison go at the end of the season no matter if Rovers stay in this division or go up,if promoted I would let Mcrystal go too. The rest I would try to keep, not sure about Ollie Clark ?. Then I think a goalkeeper ( or 2) a defender, attacking midfielder, centre forward are the priorities and maybe a winger.
I really hope they can hang on to Lockyer,Taylor,Leadbitter,James Clark and sign Gaffney, with Sinclair its the nucleus of a team.
I rate Mansell but will he last another season ? maybe in this division but I doubt he could go up a division.

i agree with creationblue that the one year contracts is part of the reason for our success, obviously the club need to try and get our best players on 2 year deals but not at any expense, leadbitter lockyer brown and taylor are the only players i would like to see tied up for 2 years

Think Ollie Clarke one of our best players yesterday and at Wimbledon. Worth a deal as I bet he is not expensive. McCrystal worth another year as a very strong CB back up, club captain, respected pro. Mansell the same, on current form one of our better players.
Strugglers for me are Ellis, Gozzy, Montano & Bodin - yet to show they are worth more.

Totally get what your saying, we've seen players not play for the shirt but I do think we have honest players with us now. And effectively are squad has no value, if there are no contracts.

Lines would be the first out the door I believe that Chris Lines is also out of contract at the end of the season, so it should be a relatively easy one to resolve. An offer of a new contract, or not.

Lines would be the first out the door Why? I get the impression he was playing with an injury for quite a while, so way off his best - if he is now fully fit and back to his best, he is a must-keep player. Time will tell!

I wont be surprised if most if not all have a clause in their contract allowing them a one year extention.

He did last year. I think he'll get back in the side at the expense of Ollie Clarke in the not too distant future.

I wont be surprised if most if not all have a clause in their contract allowing them a one year extention. DC's already confirmed none of the squad have contract clauses, although it could be DC's promised them all contract offers if they get promoted again? Out of the players names already I'm not sure I'd offer McChrystal a contract as I doubt he's poorly paid and he's hardly one for the future? Can't really judge Puddy until we've seen him play league football, but time's quickly running out for him.

Lies, damned lies and statistics He's a better player than Ollie is and will get a chance to improve those stats at some point.
