A level of intelligence lower than the knuckles the inbreds drag on the ground. You have to worry about them breeding similar.

I'm pretty confident a huge, huge majority of City fans won't be impressed and it will get cleaned up pretty quickly.

Am I imagining this or has this happened at Christmas before? Disgusting but as others have said I'm sure the vast majority of city fans would condemn this also.

How many times can these things happen, spread over a 30+ year period, (burning down grounds, defacing or 'adding' to the Memorial Gates) & it be written off because it's a so-called tiny minority?

I'm embarrassed for all supporters of Bristol City and the parents of the culprits.

Instead of City fans paying for the gates to be professionally cleaned(laudable), wouldn't it be more just for those who did it to be seen spending every day of their school holidays "cleaning" it.

Whoever did it they are morons. How much would it cost to have a cctv camera covering the gates? Not much surely.

I thought for a moment or two about the kind of people who would do this sort of thing, and then I thought about the 'Christmas day in the trenches' attitude of all those City fans who pitched in to raise funds for one of our own, Jamie Cooper, after he was wounded in Iraq. I'd rather think about those people for a lot longer, because however little City mean to me (minus fifty on a scale of 1-10) I think that most of their fans are decent enough people to deplore this kind of thing and I won't give in to the divisiveness that it's intended to foster. Our heroes did not give their lives so that we could take up fighting among ourselves instead once the war was won. Certainly not at this time of year. Merry Christmas to everyone, Blue and red, unless you're the kind of attention-seeking moron that thinks defacing a memorial to those who died to give your mummy and daddy the freedom to buy you bright red spray paint makes you look clever.

Just been on Glos Rd and it looked like the same juveniles had been at the back of the Somerfield down there, bloke was just painting over some of it but similar style and same colour. "Buzzcuts" was left visible so trace that tag and we may have our culprits.

Fine words, well said and I am sure all right minded people, red, blue or neutral, will concur. Trouble is the sentiment will be lost on the numbskulls who did this who will be incapable of coherent thought and understanding of what is behind your words. The situation is somewhat helped by the Twitter comment on the cleaning. Maybe, just maybe, the message might get through if these halfwits are chided by their own, rather than others. But I ain't holding my breath on that one.

Is anyone actually surprised? I must start by saying that the vast majority of City fans are as disgusted as we are, and City as a club seem to have acted quickly, so fair play. But this is just the latest in a long line of incidents. It's not the first time the gates have been vandalised. Last time, they were joined by their Dutch friends for a spot of disrespecting the war dead. From setting fire to Twerton Park in the early hours of the morning, smashing up an empty pub in Cardiff, attacking a Harvesters in Bolton, and the graffiti just spells out what cowards a section of their support are. Not going to tar them all with the same brush, but they've always had this nasty (but not particularly brave) minority.

Sadly both clubs have their share of idiots so no point pretending our lot are all all like Aled Jones and the 82ers are all Like Vinny Jones. Just very very sad that anyone could get enjoyment from doing this.

Without wanting to get all philosophical on this I would argue that this is endemic of a wider social/educational/moral issue than strictly a football issue. Football is just but one vehicle by which we see it played out. And as you say is therefore not restricted to any one particular club, here or anywhere else. Being just to the right of Ghengis Khan on how we should deal with these halfwits probably puts me at odds with the current thinking process of many who allegedly think they know better. Probably truth is half way between.
