Totally agree nothing meaningful has changed from what we have seen over the last few seasons and the people responsible for showing appalling judgement in the past are still in influential positions I see no reason whatsoever for optimism.

The Eternal OptimistJust like i did last season and the season before, this summer is crucial,we can not be unready for what is coming, most fans are on a short fuse now, and if we start poorly they will soon blow and it is going to be at Box one straight away

No optimism whatsoever.
Better players have gone and have been replaced with mid/low table conference players (today's signing was another low). I'm assuming Smith and maybe Mildenhall and Parkes will also leave, which leaves us desperately short of any quality whatsoever.
Good players are available in this league (Iwelumo, Constable, Tubbs, Pipe, Frear) but we're not getting them.
Rovers have successfully 'lowered by expectations', as it stands if we have a poor start and we start to get fans in the team's back we could really be looking over our shoulders next season.
Why is it always like this with us?

Squad wise the only positive I have at this moment in time is that the back five have been retained (thus far). We had the 12th best defence in the league last year so that has to be a positive in the league below.
My worry on the pitch is at the other end of the pitch. It's what cost us our league status last year. Get that wrong and we will be in for a very frustrating season.
I guess time will tell.

Well the new foundations being built with previous seasons failed 'straw' don't help. Eg Ellis Harrison!

Well the new foundations being built with previous seasons failed 'straw' don't help. Eg Ellis Harrison! To be fair, I would see Mildenhall, Brown, McChrystal, Parkes, Smith, Lockyer as the foundation and a pretty strong one at that. We demonstrably failed in attack and midfield last season and this is being replaced. Harrison probably knows now that Rovers are his only chance of earning a living as a professional footballer and he only has a contract for one more year. He has the ability and with young tantrums out of the way, I'm hoping for a better season from him (and for him). Without Matt Harrold, we don't have the option of lumping up to an isolated target man. With Brunt back fit, Clarke with a season of experience under his belt and the new additions looking positive - in my opinion we might just have a good season. I bloody well hope so!

I like Clark as a Manager (well he speaks well) I think we may see a better style of football. But I dont get any confidence from the B.O.D, As many have said the review is just a white wash untrustworthy people looking after themselves.

Clarke (by his own admission) was poor in his first 8 games. Since then he has cried, blamed John Ward, said he likes to play good football and signed 5 players (3 of which I have never heard of) Im not saying dont give him a chance but I dont get the huge Optimism many feel ? I feel more a complete lack of knowledge of where we are at this point ? good or bad.

Ashperry, You say the squad seems as ill prepared going into preseason as it has been the last few years.
Can you say how? Have you seen them? Are they sitting around drinking instead of getting fit?
Do tell, because it might save all of us from bothering.
As it happens I did see them this morning and if the stamina work is typical, I gotta say I wouldn't fancy doing it. DC also mixed the regime by allowing pass and move interplay and many other varied stamina sapping inter plays.
Must admit I was surprised that ball work would be in evidence today as I thought it would be about getting basic fitness levels up, but even Parkes looked leaner than usual.

I've got an horrible feeling that we haven't finished dropping!
We are making signings akin to Buckle's "Barcelona of L2" and look what happened to them!
I have no expectations!

If you don't remove the cancer or the patient does not accept that treatment is needed then there is only one likely outcome.
Box One is the cancer ... the Boys Club needs to be split up for our club to move forward and heal.
( Apologies if this offends .. it is not meant to)

....even Parkes looked leaner than usual. I wasn't able to get to many games last season and couldn't understand from listening to the games why Parkes had fallen so far from the season before when he was winning player of the month and being linked with teams in higher divisions. I then attended the Rochdale game at the end of the season and straight away knew why, he was 4 stone heavier than he was the season before, and not 4 stone heavier with sexy muscle, 4 stone of sexy pie induced meatiness. Shame, working towards a good bear figure though

Why is it always like this with us? Good players like Pipe ... So good Newport told him half way through the season he wasn't wanted, he should have been off against us at their place. The man is a disgrace and whilst I accept everyone deserves a 2nd chance that does not mean representing Rovers again in my book. He was never that good for us anyway all huff n puff and aggression with no end product. We have had enough of this type of big time Charlie playing for us thank you

No changes off the field apart from sacking a load of hard working employees.
On the field we still look woefully short. Hopefully this will be addressed in the coming weeks, but I'm not hopeful.

I'm pretty relaxed about it all, I have no idea how good the players we have signed are but I like what the fans of their ex clubs have had to say. I have faith in DC and I'll be honest that has more to do with what he has said and that a few of my mates are Salisbury fans. I'm not the eternal optimist but I'm quietly confident we finally have the right man at the helm.

Singings so far seem pretty underwhelming, don't think players are exactly queuing up to play for us though. Guess things might go OK but not really confident at the moment.

So thoroughly disappointing. But I can look on the positive side, at least I won't be putting anymore money in or have to put myself through the crap anymore. Yet another who will be walking away from it all... And that will also be my last post for a while, don't want my 'negativity' (or realism as I would call it) to drag the forum down. Enjoy the signings, enjoy the naive cry baby manager, enjoy the spivs in Box 1 taking the piss out out of you, and enjoy the first season of non-league football for 94 years. I'm sure it will be memorable. All the best gasheads, lets hope i'm wrong.
