Thought it would be good idea to start a thread, and continue, of any funny or memorable anecdotes of away venues we are about to visit?
Or even for some of you to admit you're a virgin at this venue?!
First one went ok, lets to see how this goes..
I'm guessing this will be the most participated thread on this topic?
Hilarious first time on a night match late 80s....got down there old school styleeee, finding floodlights blazing....got out car pi$$ed up singing WE ARE THE GAS only to find we got to Exeter Rugby on a training night! We were escorted through the home end by police.. I think we drew 1-1.
I've been down many times since and only seen us win once in mickey mouse trophy, early 90s..
Safe journey all GasHeads.

I have only been there once,a night game in 1981...all I can remember about it was Frankie Prince playing for them.

Mid 80's, travelled to Exeter by train organised by the Supporters Club. The train arrived at the halt over the road from the ground at about 1 minute to 3. Consequently, I was still outside the ground when Paul Randall scored the only goal of the game at about 1 minute past 3.

The 2-2 Adam Stansfield game, emotional occasion & a steaming hot day. That tiny pasty hat ran out of almost everything after 30mins so had to get into a mars bar to try and cool myself down!
Oh and letting a 2-1 lead slip against ten men was most frustrating.

I was told on the weekend that Frankie Prince quit Torquay because the buggers denied him a testimonial after over 20 years service. He told those close to him, "Even Bristol Rovers looked after me better."

Ah - finally one of these I can actually join in on! Seems odd - I've been to enough blimin grounds but none that have come up recently.
I have been to St James' many times but the one that sticks in the mind is 2003, which I think is the second time I went. I was considering applying to Exeter Uni at the time so I combined the game with a trip round the campus.
We were in an absolutely horrendous state at the time. This would have been towards the end of Graydon's first season in charge. It was one of the most tense games I can ever remember because they were down there with us at the time - the atmosphere was poisonous and the main thing that sticks in the mind is both sets of fans trying their absolute damndest to get the ref to give them decisions because they knew a penalty was probably the only way either side was likely to score. I remember it as 0-0 but maybe that was just the quality of the game. As a result that was good for us as we continued to eek out scores that just took us over the line to safety. We were an awful side though. At the time the one bright spot was Ijah Anderson who was on loan and was considered a key player in keeping us up. In retrospect I think he merely stood out because the rest of that side was universally dreadful. Michelle Di-Piedi played up front for a time in that much - he did so very badly. In fact nearly all of our players in that game did their jobs very badly but we were still the better team which shows just how awful Exeter were. To be fair if we'd had anyone who could finish we would have been worthy winners but Kevin Miller kept Exeter in the game and when they went down he signed for us.
Dreadful day - I remember that season as the least enjoyable I have had as a Rovers fan. Honestly, worse than the relegation seasons - all of which I can remember at least having some moments of false hope. The 2002/03 season had none at all and I remember that game being indicative of that.
Also remember going down the year before when Walters was sent off in whatever the LDV AutoWindscreen Trophy thingy was called at the time. One of his last games for Rovers - and it seemed indicative of the sad fact that he really was no longer capable and, at that point, neither were Rovers either. You just thought bloody hell what an ignominious end to an era.

Oh forgot to add one night at St James Park, it was bloody freezing.
Because some of us had been on the scrump more than others all day, one of us achieved a feat in the away end I have never seen before or since. (behave!)
It was quite packed, and mate fell asleep stood up!
Oh for the joys of the juice of the apple..

I'll never forget Frankie and his battles with Gerry Gow, in Glos cup games. Have met and chatted with him at the tote end reunions. Great guy and I would love it if he had the chance of some role with us. They don't make em like him nowadays

Right then, we probably shouldnt glamourise football violence, but the most entertaining fight I saw was away at exeter, it was an early kick off I can't even remember the score possibly 2 all, it was in the early 90s and both sets of supporters ended up meeting in a market about quarter of a mile up the road, and one bloke grabbed a tray of eggs and started throwing them at the exeter supporters then one of them picked up a bird table and started swinging it above his head, it was a point in my life where I was really into wwf wrestling and it was like seeing it enacted in front of me for freee

Never seen us win at Exeter and I'm travelling tomorrow!!!
Remember Walters being sent off for a shocking tackle, and that was a highlight of many trips!
Hospitality tomorrow and plenty of Exeter mates to face if we lose!!!!

Sure that was an early kick off as I remember being quizzed by PC Cox whether Rovers were going to make an appearance at Yeovil later in the day as they were home to Northampton. That would have been part of our FA Cup run to the 5th round when we lost at Barnsley. We played them at home in the cup in 1996 and that day had it's share of incidents too.

You just thought bloody hell what an ignominious end to an era. Yes I was at that one as well. Think it was March and I seem to remember 2 scantily dressed Exeter mascots who were meant to be Romans or Grecians! They were parading before the match and they must have been frozen, I was and I was wrapped up. I was sat in their old wooden stand next to Astafyevs our friendly Latvian who was injured for that match. As you say it was an awful match ending 0-0. Before the match started Graydon was being interviewed by Don Goodman near our end. To be honest don't remember much of the match except we should have won. Got a feeling that we signed Kevin Millar soon after and he was part of Atkins team the following season. Was an awful season and thought it could never get any worse. Ha! Rovers certainly put me right about that one! UTG!

I remember that well, we just got through the turnstiles but didnt see the goal. On the train on the way home there were a group of lads playing cards, lots of money on the table and obviously no lights on those football special trains. When the train went into a tunnel, you could hear loads of shouting with people being accused of nicking money. When the train came out of the tunnel, all of the money had disappeared from the table!
