I'm still, so blurry angry from the fiasco against Chesham. We had 17 corners against an amateur team, and still we couldn't score. I wonder what we do on the training ground every day, what does Marcus Stewart teach these wasters. It doesn't matter who takes the corners, Brown, Bodin, Gosling etc, just before they take the corner, they signal to our "forwards!!!) with both arms in the air, this means they haven't a clue what they are going to do next. Then woof, a huge punt anywhere in the box, and the defender ALWAYS clears the danger. I think our forwards in the box are hoping it doesn't come to them, cos they wouldn't know what to do with it anyway. If by a slim chance a shooting opportunity does come , you just know it won't hit the target, normally hit high, wide or ugly. I think, Marcus was bought back to the club, as a old pals act, I don't think he has any coaching skills at all. All the time he has been coaching for us, all our forwards are shot shy, crap at hitting the target. Don't tell me our forwards can't score from corners, cos they are all vertically challenged, cos that hasn't stopped the likes of Keegan, Messi or Rooney in the past. Even the best footballers in the past, Tony Adams, Roy Keene, and Kevin Keegan don't make good coaches/managers, so I think it is time to pension off Marcus (I know he was our hero in past days), but its time to start with a new approach, and teach our forwards (and midfielders) how to score goals. I'm not just reacting to last weekends result. this has been brewing all season and I can't really see things changing soon, if we don't try a new approach I'm interested if anyone else agrees with me.

We are very poor in the air up front full stop. We need a strong player, someone like John-Lewis, especially for home games where we get cross after cross into the box

I thought Tom Lockyer missed two free headers from corners in the second half on Sunday.
I also think the focus on Marcus Stewart is a bit suspicious; he's employed as a coach, not a finishing teacher, so presumably he has more overall responsibility for the team, and less individual culpability for our forwards failings. And how many goals did he ever score from corners anyway?

...and to follow on from astavjevs, Parkes hit the bar and arguably had easier chance direct from corner.
I'm surprised Bliss can't be utilised in this way as a niche specialist at a dead ball routine. He scored against us with header from corner..
From recollection, we gave only scored once v Barnet at home direct from corner....and that came from outside the penalty area!

Tempting fate, but how many have we conceded from corners?

That is exactly the point I am getting at. Two free headers against part timers and both missed the target. But this is happening every game. It's not often you see the opposing keeper having a blinder of a match. A few good saves now and again, is the norm these days. One more point , I think the bad reviews about Nicholas was in merited. Yes he let a silly goal in, but also produced a fantastic penalty save. OK so we let a simple goal in, but our forwards and midfielders still had plenty of time to score a couple themselves, so they should be the ones taking the flak

If it was the first silly goal he'd let in recently, I'd agree with you.

Our corners aren't awful. Our ability to covert decent ones into goals is.

I can't remember the last time that we were a threat from corners - it's been so long. We also have a terrible record of scoring from free-kicks that are put in to the box looking for someone's head. Winning football matches is an uphill battle when a side is unable to score from set-pieces. Having such a vertically challenged team has to have something to do with it.

We hereby call upon Steve Elliott to come to the training ground one a week to show the present squad how to head the ball properly at set pieces. Legend , how many games changed after he had buried a corner??

At least we have stopped the tactic of hitting it 6 yards beyond the box for a header back that we used to do all match.

Igitur, you might be correct in saying we don't overhit the ball by 6 yards anymore, but that doesn't get away from the fact that we cannot convert chances into goals (even against amateurs). What the hell do these players do on the training ground every day, if they are not capable of scoring goals, and its not just this season, then perhaps its time to look at new players or the coaching methods.

the answer is simple
our taller players are not very good at heading
oh btw Chesham are not an amateur football team, they are part time professionals (indeed some of their players dont do anything else than play football according to their scout)

Our corners aren't awful. Our ability to covert decent ones into goals is. normally I'd agree but on Saturday Gosling hit their first man on virtually every corner he took

Our best set piece taker (Chris Lines) is currently twiddling his thumbs on the subs bench unfortunately.

Corners, free kicks, open play.....
I'd be worried if I was Taylor, Easter or Harrison.

I don't know why he gets picked, perhaps he is the best we have in which case God help us

Of course if we hit hard out swingers on to the heads of our players running in it might help, although our players would duck rather than head a ball at speed. Alfie Biggs headed those big leather balls (when they were wet) like they were made of foam, proper brave forward. Our present forwards play like nancy's frightened that it might hurt or upset their hair do, and that is with a ball that would have been used on the beach a few years ago
