Absolutely - no doubting that he was an absolute disaster with us and there have been some truth in the rumour that his heart wasn't really in it. But that doesn't change the fact that we are really the only blot on his copybook - he has had as successful a career as anyone who has managed us in recent years and there's no reason to think that he won't do well at Motherwell really.
I've always believed that something happened in that close-season, perhaps it was the size of the transfer budget allocated to him by the club, or perhaps he was too heavily involved in helping to run his wife's business. Who knows? In any event he didn't seem to turn up for the following season, and the rest (and they say) is history. I don't know if it was stupidity or stubborness on my part, but I refused to accept that he couldn't turn us around until the final game, or thereabouts.
Whether the fault (if there is one of course) lies with him or the club is really a moot point now, the fact remains that we continued our downward spiral, but thankfully the corpse is showing signs of life once again.
