Brilliant that we scored 4 today and 7 in two games is wonderful. Scoring lots of goals disguises other issues. I cannot help questioning why we are so troubled between the posts, and what the long term solution is. Mildy, who was in goal the majority of the time in the 66 games since last conceded 3, is now considered not good enough. Puddy, who knows what has happened to him, or what his future is. He never so conceded more than 2 goals. Two loan keepers in the first 10 games whist we have two contracted.
DC preferred to focus on the goals we scored and brushed over the glaring mistake by Nichols for Morcambe's first. If that had been Mildy, he would have been highlighted and dropped next game. I wonder who will be in goal for Wycombe JPT?

Keepers make mistakes, but for me Nicholls is quality and looks like he cares - really hope he can stay for the rest of the season - miles better than Mildenhall.

Not a quandary for me. Nicholls is the best keeper at the club.

Clearly Mildenhall is history, Puddy struggling with a long term injury and may only be good enough for No 2 when fit. That leaves Nicholls who so far has made one error, like Puddy at Dover, unlike Mildenhall who's made numerous and also seems to have lost the nerve to leave his line.
If Nicholls isn't good enough DC will have to look elsewhere when his loan spell finishes/sign a permanent replacement.

So we conceded three goals for the first time in ages but Nicholls looks confident and IMO is the best of the keepers we have by a country mile. Any time a goalkeeper makes a mistake it is going to come under the spotlight but I tend to look beyond the error and more at the general performance.ie if you took out the mistakes what have his performances been like and for me Nicholls has looked a quality keeper at this level' He's not a giant but more than capable of imposing himself when crosses come in and I base this on what the opponents do. When Mildenhall is in goal you will see the majority of crosses and corners going right in the six yard box despite his height. This is not so with Nicholls and also was not the case with Chapman. Teams have spotted that Mildenhall no longer commands his box and target this. We are League 2 and have to accept that keepers at this level are going to make mistakes but i hope that we are not going to get this everytime a keeper makes a mistake. it happens and it happens in the Premiership as well!!

Nicholls made a couple of mistakes yesterday, it didn't cost us. He held up his hands to the supporters at the end of the match to apologise. He'll learn from yesterday and improve for it.

Nicholls is still young and improving, Mildenhall is the complete opposite, sadly.

Like everyone else, I am very impressed by Nicholls and don't think we have any problem in the goalkeeping department at all. Sure I was annoyed when he made his mistakes yesterday as I thought it may cost us, but he was apologetic and has done a great job during his loan thus far. I hope we can extend it in December because he is a top 'keeper.

It was a simple wrong decision for their first goal, certainly not a howler like so many over reacted with! The second was barely his fault either, mile wide gap in the defence & Macca was inviting him to come out and clear it 40 yards out!

I wonder who will be in goal for Wycombe JPT? Haven't seen enough to enter into the debate but I would say that 'number of goals conceded' is a pretty flawed way of judging a goalkeeper. This isn't Ice Hockey where a team lives and dies on its goalkeeper. Goals conceded normally has far more to do with what's going on in front of the goalkeeper. I think Mildenhall is extremely competent and I am surprised that Clarke is keen to get rid of him but I'm not sure the case in his defence comes from those figures.
Quite a lot of the time if a team ships a hatful of goals in a season the goalkeeper will be named the player of the year because he'll be likely playing behind a crap defence that allows him to show off his skills.

Mildy is too slow on his feet, he cannot play sweeper keeper any more and that is a requirement these days.

DC said he 'knows what he's looking for', and that Chapman wasn't quite it. He didn't say what it is tho

Not a quandary for me. Nicholls is the best keeper at the club. At Hartlepool he made a fantastic reaction save that I thought was in and would of given the Pools hope. He also in the Northampton team 2 seasons ago that made the playoffs

I like Nicholls, that first goal really upset him showing he cares. Part of the issue is inexperience another is he has yet to build a deep understanding with the back 4 but that will come.

There's footage on youtube from gas at Hartlepool begin goal. If you check out Nicholls body language you can tell he has empathy for his teammates as he has no clue he is on film when we are attacking. I hope it works for him and us..
