A good performance generally ruined by an abysmal referee but despite a lot of good neat football we failed to open up opponents who were professional and annoying very similar to the problems that Northampton created in the first game. For all the possession we rarely looked like scoring but also until the worldly goal also did not really look like conceding. If we want to win more games then DC is going to have to find a goalscorer but also a formation that sees us pushing forward far better than we did with more conviction with the final ball. We still did enough to get something out of the game but I am not as impresse4d as some seem to be because we really don't look like scoring many goals.
Chapman 6 A good save from the header and a generally sound and confident performance although had little of note to do. No goalkeeper would have stopped the quality strike that separated the teams and if it was in the Premiership we would see it again and again between now and May. It was that good!!
.
Brown 7 Amazing amount of energy to get up and down the field in the heat. Solid when defending and worked tirelessly to attack Oxford at every opportunity. Unlucky with the header he sent across the goal and put over a number of crosses throughout the game.never looked in trouble defensively and always looked to cause trouble offensively
Clarke J 7 Started the game well and in the three with limited expectancy to attack he was very good but lacked ideas the further forward he got. That said he is proving to be a very reliable and sound defender and even when he made a terrible error in the second half he managed to get back and win the ball back.
Lockyer 7 Tom has found his true position and plays with an authority well beyond his years and even with ten players we did not look like conceding a goal . Reads the game well and his distribution has improved considerably now he feels at ease. I wouldn't blame anybody for the worldly goal because it was probably caused by the team losing a bit of the discipline they had at one player down and it was conceded as soon as the ref evened out the numbers.
Parkes 7 Couple of errors but overall a strong game defensively and tried hard to bring the ball out with reasonable success. Really should be better in the air when in the opponents area but rarely does he get in the sort of header he should. Unfortunately the best two chances fell to him and he failed to direct either chance in despite an excellent cross for the first chance that had goal written all over it but ended up straight at the keeper.
Sinclair 7 Covered every blade of grass as usual and tried hard to attack the opposition but for me I would like to see him and the team harassing further up the pitch to stop the better opposing teams playing from the back. That is more a criticism of the tactics than his personal performance as he always inspires everybody even if his technical ability is sometimes lacking.
Clarke O 5 Probably not on long enough to mark. Very dubious red card and if referees gave them for those type of challenges everytime then we would see a few games abandoned due to lack of numbers. Was having mixed luck with his distribution before departing for an early bath.
Lines 7.5 MOTM Best game of the season from Chris as he imposed himself on the midfield with his probing passes and drifting runs at the Oxford defence. IMO was the best player on the pitch and the mark would be higher if his dead ball deliveries were improved.
Mansell 6 Hard working display but a little rusty at times and I am sure by choice he wouldnt have come back for a game where we were outnumbered so early on however he performed well and certainly it is good to have his leadership skills back. DC now needs to decide on his best midfield but be prepared to leave one out in preference of a more attacking unit.
Easter 6.5 A really hard working and classy performance and if he was a midfield player i would have been raving about the quality he showed in retaining the ball but he is a striker and as suchy he was too deep ,even before Clarkes sending off and having to waste so much energy on a wasted cause which is exactly what DCs tactics of allowing the back four of the opposition to have the ball and pass it across but in doing so waste so much of the two front runners energy.
Taylor 5 I will say straight away that he does himself no favours by falling around because he then gives referees the opportunity to not give a foul when he is genuinely fouled. It is hard to criticise his finishing today as we didn't really create much for our strikers even though we were the better side for most of the match.
Harrison 4 No better than Taylor and not on as long.
Montano 4 Really not sure about him and I have doubts that he is up to the standard of even Balanta last year. He seemsa to be lost in where he should be playing.
Bodin 5- Robbed of a definite penalty by a Referee who like last weeks ref managed to get a lot more decisions wrong than right. Would really like to see more of him before making any decision as to his use to the team.
Oxford 6.5 A strong ,professional unit but in all honesty were second best today even when against ten players. It was ironic that the winning goal was scored just after the numbers had been evened up. i think they will definitely make the Play offs as there is a lot of experience and clever but annoying play acting in there team which takes advantage of the ludicrous standard of refereeing we are seeing at the moment.
Ref 0 Awful, awful, awful.Sorry but the ,only word I can use to describe this incompetant fool who was falsely described as a referee and definitely lost us the game. Awful. Sorry but even the National League would be too good for him and he should be struck off immediately.
Crowd 7 Vociferous
DC Taking everything into consideration we played well but the problem is there for all to see. For all the nice football we just don't create enough chances and spend far too much time in our own half and allowing the opposition to play from the back. The problem with this is that we spend a lot of time being too deep and fail to support the front two, We do not have the players to pass the ball through and if our strikers do get the ball they invariably have to pass it back. Most of the good football came from us but where we are going to score goals playing this way I am not sure. Maybe Easter should be played in a midfield role where his retention of the ball is good. I really thought this year we would have the wingers to create danger and get a lot of balls in but sadly this is not the case and although i don't see us struggling I very much see more defeats ahead as we are two attacking players short of what could be a very good team.
Anyway on to next week and hopefully three points to at least keep us in touch with the top 7.
