On Radio Bristol this afternoon in a pre recorded interview. He was saying how he was threatened by s**theads after signing for us. Bricks through his car windscreen and his wife and kids being abused and threatened. The South Bristol mentality a credit to the 82ers. Absolute fools.

In good form down at twerton this afternoon, already made some excellent saves this season and you can see hes respected by the team and building a very confident defence, really hated some of the dickheads at rovers giving him abuse, something i have never done to anyone wearing the colours, mind you steve had heard it all before in bs3

Geoff Merrick went on record, on radio Bristol, a few years ago. He said that the Trashton hate 8 were subject to the very same. Had faeces put through his letterbox as a finishing touch, threatened when out with family, spat at and he was in fear of his life. I had the thing recorded but it got wiped after a reinstall of OS. Awful club and they have the temerity to call them legends after they basically threatened them into tearing up contracts. Some things should never be forgotten

I think that on balance I'm happier as I am, ta very much.

Mate of mine who supports the other lot tells me he got threatened by home fans when they lost to Brentford but doesn't know why.Quite shaken the season ticket holder was but despite our ramshackle set-up,everyone seems very friendly on match days at the Mem especially when we tell them we've travelled down from Stafford.

I wonder if the Steve Phillips who opened the batting for Chilcompton Sports in the North Somerset cricket final the other Sunday at Lansdown CC is the same guy ? I know Steve played alot of cricket and lived/lives down that way.

I've played cricket both with and against Steve Phillips over the years. Apparently he was an excellent player when he was a junior and played for the old Avon representative side. I don't think he was ever a genuine county prospect but certainly a very good cricketer. He was connected with Purnells CC in Paulton. He played for my club in a couple of friendlies while he was playing for Rovers. It was a bit odd because technically he wasn't really allowed to in his contract - had he gotten injured Rovers could potentially have voided his contract. But the chances of getting injured at that level were pretty small and if they ball was hit hard at him he just jumped out of the way. Quite a classy left handed bat and somewhat erratic medium pacer is how I remember him.

Thanks for the replies guys,I thought it was probably him.Don't think I've played against him but played against the Chillis when they were Stratton On Fosse some years back.Tim Fussell and Dave Travis are two names I remember. Never played against Purnells but I played on the same side as Steve Jones,an old Purnells all rounder a few times. He was a good player.

I don't know Purnells that well but I have spotted a fair few of their players at the Mem over the years (know them well enough to exchange nods etc) which I thought was a bit surprising given that it is a pretty overtly Bristol City orientated social club there.
Played at Stratton on Fosse a few times, the way Downside School treated them was an absolute disgrace given how long they'd been playing there and the lack of other obvious facilities in the area. It's great that they were able to reinvent themselves and carry on in a different guise.

Don't want to sound like im s**t stirring as I liked SP both on and off the pitch, but wasn't there a strong rumour he grassed up Andy Sandell for playing for a mate's 5 a side team without permission that indirectly lead to Phillip's departure as he fell out with a good few of the team over it?
I know cricket is a bit different to football and he'd be probably as likely to injure his finger cooking dinner or doing some DIY but still...

Been away so could not reply - Travis and Fussell - Dirty, Dirty teds regretfully. Great chaps and Dave, who I have known for 30 years, is top of the Friendship CV.
