If like me you love anything retro when it comes to your football, this should sort you out!
1 hours worth of Eastville highlights/goals to get through, if you have any time to spare! I've definitely never seen any of this before. Thank Christ for the user on YouTube for providing the footage, whoever you might be!

How s**t is the defending and keeping in that first game?! Hell of a free kick though... not to mention the baby blue short shorts! Proper football?

Silly question, but why were crowds so low back then when the side was doing reasonably well?

Crowds had other things to do besides watching football...such as talking to each other in pubs instead of continually sending texts downloading music for free, playing stupid computer games ...watching actual live music and reading actual books, watching happy days and doctor who on small screen tvs....happy days indeed

Silly question, but why were crowds so low back then when the side was doing reasonably well? Football was in the doldrums in a big way, and crowds across all 4 divisions were nowhere near todays levels. The Premier League and Sky have - in my opinion- not been universally good for football, however, they certainly dragged it kicking and screaming into the modern age and improved things in many areas. Theses days politicians and celebs fawn over football, even pretending to be fans of particular teams, back then they were queueing up to put the boot in.

Was at all of those Rovers games - amazing what is forgotten over time.
1-0 down, 3-1 up we knocked City out the cup
How dire Cashley was on so many occasions
And the classic commentary during the victory over Wigan, referring to us as City on several occasions - dire commentators far worse than todays offerings

If you go to 53:30 you will not only see a great goal from Holloway, but also hear the commentator refer to us as "City". And again 10 seconds later!
EDIT- sorry Ilfracombe just saw your post above. Still a great goal though

Ah this action is from around the time I watched my first few games ever at Eastville. As you can see the grand old stadium was looking tired and run down by this point and its a huge regret of mine that I never got to see Eastville in all it's glory. I only ever knew the tatty old stadium it was at the end and post the South Stand fire. Looking at that, the Mem looks positively tidy. But as someone said above the standard is surprising, some of the goalkeeping isn't very clever at all! Still its a nice reminder of what it was like at the very start for me and the players I used to watch when I first followed the Gas!

I like the commentator in the Lincoln game (about 6:50) sounds like he's from a Pathe Newsreel clip!
This is an excellent find - reminds you that goalkeeping has come on a long way in the last 30 years too!

Excellent Mr.Lebowski - you did indeed miss out, 50p to get into the Tote End, 30p if my memory serves for the open end and nowhere in the land could you get worse food than the pies and burgers served up tho they tasted 5 star as a nipper back then...

Eastville post South Stand fire was a depressing place. For all the history there, it's probably best that we got out of the place, and that there is nothing left of it. I do have some great memories of the place. The visits of Chelsea will live long in the memory, as will the performance of Brian Daniel of Kettering (and trust me I didn't have to look his name up, I will never forgive him!) in the snow against Ipswich in the cup. I wasn't attending games in the early 70s, so missed out on the league cup run and the Watney Cup, but I did get to see us in a couple of games at the end of the promotion season. Anyone remember who was the testimonial for when Frankie Prince and Alan Hudson got sent off for fighting?

Great compilation, not sure who's put it together, don't think I've seen any of it before ? Good quality mostly too. Ian Halliday anyone ? That's Ian Seymour the HTV linkman in many shots, sadly passed away many years ago now.Was a good club cricketer for Bedminster I think, possibly also Optimists.
