After Saturdays mess of a game it was good to see the football the lads can play.
All round the team put in a good shift and made Birmingham look like the underdogs!! We controlled the game!!
All the forwards looked sharp, the midfield calm and creative and defence solid ..... however that leaves the keeper.
Now im a Mildenhall fan but against Northampton and tonight against Birmingham he has looked void of confidence. Maybe last seasons break in play has affected him and i hope it doesnt last but for now it is a worry.
The biggest part is the blame he seemed to put on the defence in front of him.
Fair play to Matty Taylor who looked hungry to make up for Saturdays mistake .... we are league 2, we will make mistakes BUT that sort of commitment i saw tonight was excellent, i will back them all the way with that attitude!!
Also Clarkes passion on the touchline was great to see!!
All in all we were unlucky not to get more from the game BUT loads of positives to take into Saturdays game!
As for Birmingham ... good luck this season, your going to need it!

Absolutely, op.
So many positives.
I like how we upped tempo at start of second half and actually ran at them. We gave them problems with pace and movement. Ironic that a much better performance, balanced and organised, from an on paper weaker starting team.
If Rovers are gonna lose, lose gracefully this way. With fight and passion. And with decent chances and creativity.
Well done, DC for a retort. Keep the good work up and on to Yeovile....with reportedly 8 injuries.
Well done Rovers, proud of the effort shown.

3-5-2 certainly seems to be the best formation for the squad we have. From what i saw last season and hearing about tonight, Leadbitter did very well and is a natural wing back. We lack quality in the wide positions, i would have Montano & Gosling as back up for Sinclair in the attacking midfield role, Linesy as the deep lying playmaker and Mansell as the defensive battler. Glad to hear taylor did well tonight after the disgraceful treatment he received from the majority after Saturday.

And see looking (again!) for loan signings to help them out their crisis. ...or it could all be a ruse

I thought we played well, was better in the second half when Sinclair got a chance in the middle and DC spread the two wing backs very well. I do feel we should have used Leadbitters pace more down the right side, he was causing their full back all sorts of problems, a really strong performance from him I thought he deserved MOTM ! Taylor was back on top of his game and changed the way we played, making some fantastic runs into the corners and keeping the Brum CB's on their toes! Really encouraged by the performances of Lockyer and J Clarke, Tom Parkes yet again flatters to deceive which is dissappointing as we can all see that there is a fantastic footballer in there somewhere, he played really well in the first half, he's always much better when he plays to feet and second half he thought he was back against the cobblers! I'd like to see a partnership of Clarke and MM at the back when he returns! All in all a much improved performance on Saturdays turgid display and reasons to go into the weekend positive! I also pray for the Birmingham fans this season !

Well that was the proverbial chalk and cheese performance. What a refreshing change to see us attempting to pass the ball to one another rather than hoof it up the pitch and hope. Granted the opposition probably gave us more space to play in and were just that little better with their passing and finishing but what a refreshing change to how we played on Saturday. Not sure about Easter yet, he is obviously a class player but our players just don't seem to be reading his game very well. I thought Leadbetter was outstanding (besides his pass back that played their player in or at least that who it looked like from the far end) and Taylor made a hell of a difference when he came on with his runs off the ball and his touches on it. I hope we get Puddy back soon or I'd be tempted to start off with Preston in goal who appeared very competent during the friendlies, Mildenhall appears to have totally lost his confidence and ability to direct what's going on around him and felt he was at fault for the 2nd goal. All round a far better performance from all the players......

Really great performance from all. I think Leadbitter looked one of the best players on the pitch out of the whole 22. I wish he would have a little more confidence and shoot sometimes after he has cut in. Sinclair was magnificent and his energy levels really are exceptional . He would be a first name on my team sheet. I don't think there was a bad performance from any of our lads, I was delighted to see Ollie Clarke get a run out, who did himself no harm with his performance. All the players deserve credit for the way they bounced back after Saturday.
Weakest player on the pitch - I regret to say was Mildy, and I am a fan of his. He was shouting at Browner unreasonably and very much in contradiction to the team ethics displayed over the last 12 months. He also looked very pedestrian; A far cry from the keeper he was 2 years ago.
If all championship sides are the quality of Birmingham City, then we need to get through the 2nd and 1st divisions quickly, the championship must be very comfortable

All round a far better performance from all the players...... Agree with all this, apart from Easter. It`s far from obvious to me that he is still a class player. I thought he did very little last night, and was possibly the only Rovers player who didn`t improve on his performance against Northampton. His movement up front is negligible, and as often as not he doesn`t even bother to jump to try to win the ball. He looks like an old pro, just happy to be picking up one last wage packet. I thought Taylor did more in the first sixty seconds he was on the pitch, than Easter had done in sixty minutes. I know Easter had an injury hit season last year, so I hope he starts to improve this season.

The positives were an outstanding performance from Lockyer playing in his natural position (he has the pace and strength to play there), plus very good performance from Leadbitter and good performances from Sinclair, O.Clarke and Harrison against better than L2 opposition.
Mildenhall is starting to flap and "doth protest too much". I also think that a top keeper would have saved the second.
Brown does not have the pace or confidence to be part of of a 3-5-2 formation, whereas Leadbitter does.
One reason for lack of goals is inability of our midfield to run beyond front 2. Only Sinclair attempted this, but (despite boundless enthusiasm) he has no real finishing ability.

Anyone mention the goal from Ellis? Good goal, easy take? He was our top scorer last season (minutes played to goal ratio) I believe, and have high hopes for the lad this season.

That's not how top scorer is measured, or I'd be the all time highest scorer for my school. Matt Taylor was top scorer last season (scored most goals ratio). Decent instinctive finish last night, I think. Need to see it again to be sure.

I would play Ellis up top with Easter and Taylor playing just behind like last night instead of gosling!

Gosling needs to think a little quicker, he doesn't seem to see the play around him or our players a lot of the time and loses or gives the the ball away. However, when he picks the ball up in midfield and starts to run with it instinctively he looks a good player it's just the end result isn't always the best. He did put in some decent corners and I like his movement round the pitch but he has to improve his wider view of where our players are.
