There's one specific poster on here who matches the quote perfectly. You know who you are. I know who I am. Is it me? How do you know who you are? How do you know who anybody is? How does anybody know who anybody is? All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream.

I read nineteen eighty-four over 20 years ago for my GCSE English Lit and still recognised doublethink after all this time. I wonder if the same would be true of dialogue in an episode of Neighbours watched 20 years ago, like when Joe Mangel went blind Spot on Billy. I also read it at school many many years ago. Maybe it's more applicable to our BOD than Forum Posters.............

I'm a big fan of Orwell's work. But would you have him back?

The verse itself is not the humour but applying it to SOME posters is, as could certainly apply to some.

To know and not to know, to be conscious of complete truthfulness while telling carefully constructed lies, to hold simultaneously two opinions which cancelled out, knowing them to be contradictory and believing in both of them, to use logic against logic, to repudiate morality while laying claim to it, to believe that democracy was impossible and that the Party was the guardian of democracy, to forget whatever it was necessary to forget, then to draw it back into memory again at the moment when it was needed, and then promptly to forget it again: and above all, to apply the same process to the process itself. That was the ultimate subtlety: consciously to induce unconsciousness, and then, once again, to become unconscious of the act of hypnosis you had just performed.
Please, this is humour but rather apt humour. [ 1984 has been a blueprint: - constantly at war far away - enemies become friends at the drop of a hat (Syria, Russia) - CCTV everywhere - hate speech and hate crime laws. Your premeditating thoughts are incriminating. - twitter naughty comments prosecuted - terror laws - unelected, unaudited, dictators in Brussels ruling, with legions of supporters believing this brings freedom and unity - stupid slogan based politics which have no meaning "people before profit, hope not hate , unity through diversity" - 2 minute hate for public figures like nick griffin and Nigel farage from state broadcaster. - the destruction of the family unit. - the promotion of superficial sex over love and companionship. - deliberate poor role models for young people eschewing morals and decency for stupidity and animalism. Miley, britney, etc - shopping of other citizens not paying state extortion or tax as otherwise known. - certain statistics removed or twisted to suit agendas. Sounds familiar to me Incredibly apt and I've been saying so since about 2007. Blair's government saw 1984 not as a cautionary tale but as an instruction manual. The new lot have just carried on where they left off. Don't forget the deliberate degradation of the education system - some individuals were excelling above others so the system must be devolved to bring everyone to the lowest level rather than trying to propel people to the highest level (grammar school abolition and the derision of fee paying schools). Keeping everyone stupid makes things easier at the top. No politician wants to break with Brussels because they don't want to lose their EU pension.

You also forgot the 'national lottery' which is in 1984. I think the man was a genius. I have never read his essays on the use of language in politics, which apparently are very good e.g. use of words like 'collateral damage' for killing civilians.

Teaching profession aren't going to turn down "lower standards same pay" some of the educational tripe my teacher friends come out with....there was a head teacher who sent a message on sats day saying stuff like "you might not have passed exams but you could be a good singer, or help your mother with housework, or be a really good friend to someone". I'm thoroughly scared when I have kids to leave them with these morans all day, I'm sure it's not every teacher and there are good ones but it's worrying when my young relatives struggle learning simple sums but seem to know political propoganda about various topics but including homosexuality, immigration and diversity better than maths. For the record I'm not against any of these things per se, but if you are aware of the work of the Frankfurt school it chills you to the very bone.

Well sometimes I think the club is run on the Animal Farm principle in that "all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others" substitute men for animals and there you have it. Very apt Thatslife ~ How many fans would you class as sheep who see the BoD as faultless and how many would you class as horses who do all they can for the club and then get dumped on? Most supporters are probably apathetic as to what goes on inside the working of the club, they probably only take notice of headline issues and even then they just read and not react or get involved. Of those who do interact, most will have a negative view of the BOD, as what was schedule to happen didn't, which is frustrating even to those who believe that the BOD are doing everything they can to make it happen. Many are worried that the current course of action will leave the club vulnerable to bankruptcy. A lot of posts are written as fact when they are only opinions. Some get abusive, some post intelligent opinions. Some "pretend" to have insider knowledge, some are just wind up merchants. As to how many are sheep, I don't baaaaaaa know the answer to that but I am probably one of them.
