There would be no point in having so many trialists if money is short in the wages budget.

There would be no point in having so many trialists if money is short in the wages budget. It'd get us through preseason without exerting the squad too much. I'm sure that's what most 'trials' are really about.

I doubt that Darrell would just leave. He's still a relative newcomer to management and most managers only get 1 chance in the FL.
But if another club came in, given the finances, we'd accept a compensation offer and we'd lose him.

They'd have to beat his present salary plus the playing budget to make an offer attractive I'm not sure many Div 2 clubs could do that who haven't already got a decent manager in charge, even if we are only now bugeting to break even this season.

Isn't Clarke on a one year rolling deal?

And a big apology from some...you know who you are Just a thought but is it a good time to let this one go? Whatever people may have thought and posted last season, I think that the overwhelming majority are now firmly behind Darrell Clark. New season and all that. I'm not behind him, next to Higgs and Watona he's the heaviest millstone around our collective necks, scant FL knowledge, no successful experience at that level and even less class...perhaps he'll sing for us "say, we are going ....?"

Well thanks for that but the last three managers we had all had football league experience as managers and look where that got us. The previous manager Paul Trollope also had no previous football league experience as a manager and he didn't do too badly in comparison to the other three did he ? Oh and he also delivered what he sang

From the OS:
Just a reminder that tonight manager Darrell Clarke will be hosting an open forum for all supporters to talk about the season ahead.
The forum will take place in the Dribuild Suite at the Memorial Stadium, with a 7.30pm kick off.
You don't have to be a member of the Supporters Club to attend, the meeting is open to all supporters.
Darrell will be happy to listen to what you have to say, and answer any questions you may have, on any Rovers related FOOTBALL matter. He is not, however, in a position to answer any questions on the stadium or the playing budget, so please remember this when asking your question/making your point.
The manager, who met supporters at a number of functions last season, had no hesitation in accepting an offer to chair tonight's forum, saying; “I’m always happy to meet and talk to our supporters.
"They were so loyal to us last season, so it will be a pleasure to meet some of them tonight and thank them in person for their amazing support.”
It's understandable that he should not be taken to task for the shenanigans of the board, but he should be able to give an insight into the playing budget.

Yes, the playing budget clause is a strange one and although you would never have expected him to divulge what it is he might have given an honest answer about the Sainsburys defeat and the affect on his future budget.

Could be that he doesn't want other clubs to know what we are paying, or agents

I can't for the life of me see why anyone would ever expect a manager to comment on his playing budget in public!

Maybe someone could ask him 1) What is the position regarding the three players on trial still at the club ? 2) What was the reasoning behind JMW's exit 3) are we looking at any other players and
4)What does he hope our squad strength ( in numbers ) to be ?

I'm not DC but I can answer those questions.... 1) We are still looking at them and I'll make a decision on whether we'll sign any of them in due course. 2) After looking at JMW, he wasn't what we needed. 3) We are always looking to improve the squad. 4) I don't have a specific number in mind. It's more important to have the quality rather than the quantity. There you go !

I see it as a case where the BoD determine the playing budget for the following season (along with several other budgets I'd wager), and the manager works within the alloted budget. But that is just my perspective on things. Like everyone else I imagine, I'd be delighted to hear his thoughts on his future budget, and his contractual situation if he could be teased out into the open on that one.

Obviously nobody expects he's going to give details of the pounds, shillings and pence, but he should be able to explain the effects of the court case and whether we'll be getting in some more players.

If it so confidential. I'll refrain from saying what he said.
