Thanks for the penalty Ange.
It was just Balanta.

Lets hope that any potential new clubs didn't watch his performances live on TV against Gateshead & Macclesfield. This quote from the artcle was strange, "Balanta, who showcased glimpses of exceptional ability at times, managed to start three games, whilst also coming from the bench on 15 occasions. "
I cannot remember seeing any glimpses of exceptional ability, but if gets a decent pre-season under his belt, gets fitter and stays injury free he might live up to the hype. What i will say is that i thank him for that last minute winner at home to Barnet & of course his massive penalty which he put away really well, 2 key moments, that may have earned him a 3 year deal on huge wages in the past, but the new regime under DC is a different one.

Pretty much agree with you Westcountry... Thanks for the pen and the barnet winner Angelo... Best of luck elsewhere, shame the injuries meant you weren't able to really showcase your talent

I do think there's a player in there but when you miss pre-season it's a long time back. I hope he does well where ever he goes, one of very few Rovers players to win a promotion.

I have a suspicion that Balanta might very well be one of those players who would thrive when made the main man but struggles to be make an impact as a bit part/impact player. There may well be something there but I don't think we were ever likely to see it. The thing that struck me about watching Balanta is that it just wasn't obvious where on the pitch he needed to play. Not really pacey enough to find space outwide, not really strong or direct enough to play up front. Possibly one of those annoying 'in the hole' players who are very difficult accommodate and only worth doing if they are going to make your side substantially better. It wasn't clear he would. Not disapointed he's gone because I just don't think he was a good fit with this Rovers squad but I wouldn't be stunned if a fitter Balanta made an impact somewhere else. If that happened people will probably moan at Rovers for letting him go which is unfair because sometimes it's just not right.

Sorry to see Balanta leave, thought he looked one (if not the best) of our most comfortable players on the ball. Equally fully understand those people who didn't see a lot in him & agree with what Irish says even though I liked him wouldn't know what his best position would be. Though I do find the use of the short term contract strange in this case he's proved his fitness, unlike say Sinclair (who if he does I'll be very happy to have in the squad), doesn't seemed to have rocked the boat so it's really down to the manager not deciding on how to use him. And in that case I think Balanta is right to reject the contract offer, if DC hasn't worked out how to use him through last season who is to say he will have by next Xmas? I think it would be easier now for Balanta to pick up a contract than in January.

Good luck to Balanta, even though the jury was well out for me, he did make two valuable contributions in the form of a brilliant penalty v Grimsbury and a winner home to Barnet.
If he thinks he can get better in form of a contract elsewhere, good luck to him, in the same way hopefully we can get someone in with better potential.
I trust DC with contract negotiations, and priority is the player has to fit into the club first. I think in the case of Balanta, that case was very much unproven...

Never really lived up to his potential, and it frees some money in the wage budget. didn't reslly see how he would fit into the squad anyway, hope he gets fixed up with a good club in the Conference (sorry 'National League').

Never really seemed up for it to me. One of a long list of talented individuals who could not translate that to effectiveness on the field. Sinclair types for me. (Does that mean we can get Monkey back now?)
