Belle Vue, Doncaster. The town's an absolute hole, full of shiny faced people who all look similar and think shouting "Yaarkshire" on repeat equals atmosphere.
Not with Rovers but I did the Anfield tour. Never been in fear for my safety at 10.30 on a weekday morning before. The Anfield area is a ghost town, full only of those who can't afford to leave. Every person in the street staring at you because they don't recognise you.
All LFC's fault that for buying up properties and leaving them to rot in order to smoke out the last few residents so they can build a bigger stand.

What's this hate of Newport , it's a lovely place.....well compared to Pontypool, Newbridge, Crosskeys, Risca, Llanhilleth and various other ex coal mining communities in the Valleys... lol !

Visited The New Den late last year for a game vs Forest, got off the tube & took the residential/railway track route round the back. Kind of wish I hadn't, even 1pm on a Saturday it had that 'something bad could happen here' feel about it. Walking through the two sets of railway arches had me watching my back even though we were surround by home supporting families. Me and my fellow dude kept our traps shut until we got in the ground, but the place & people really have to be seen to be believed. Real nasty, hate filled atmosphere with everyone screaming & shouting abuse non stop for 90mins. C**t being the more favoured word of the day. Anyway it ended 0-0 and the Forest right winger copped a missile to the mush when chasing a ball down in injury time. Unpleasant experience to say the least. You should have been to the Den,the New Den is a much sanitised version.
Areas around the ground the OP said, mine would be Old Den Vetch Eastville Anfield Baseball Ground
I kept saying to the guy I was with, if this is what 2014 is like imagine being here 30 years ago!!

Middlesbrough is a rough and generally poor area, but didn't feel hostile/threatened like at Millwall, or Birmingham.
P.s I remember the last game at the old den, Millwall in our section before the game scouting. Then all our supporters coach dicks singing 'your just a bunch of w*nkers' when they invaded the pitch. Thanks. Nice walk back to the car. At that time I specifically remember thinking 'I wish I was at home':-)

I agree with the new den as the locals and area cant be believed unless seen.Hull was a terrible place also when we went to the KC stadium in 2003 when they were a L2 side. All I remember from hull was that there was alot of mud there. The old vetch was terrible place to leave with all those houses right next to the ground as well as the nasty jack firm.I remember my late father and myself running for our lives in order to get home as we were attcked walking to our car.Oldham was like an islamic t raining camp with young asian kids wearing hoodies acting gangsta.Ashton gate, while our rivals ground is not that bad and miles better then the ones Ive said above. There ground with the suspenion

Truly awful ground, they were running it down at end and I saw it last season it was used. People unfriendly, like walking into the twilight zone, glad to get out.

Old Burnden Park, Bolton was a grim place to visit, with the Normid supermarket behind us.
As others have said, Burslem is a bit of a toilet tbh, and I'm not overly impressed with West Brom, though there used to be a decent pub that did amazing curries the other side of the M5 from the Hawthorns.
Kettering in the cup was a complete dump as well.
Pride of place though has to go to the Vetch Field. The only time my group have fallen for a variation of the 'got the time, mate' ruse, and on another occasion a mate who was at the back of our group got lamped heading back to the motor. As they say in Twin Town, a pretty Sh*tty city!!

Manchester City's Maine Road surroundings were pretty dire, many houses around the ground using black bags as windows (if anything!!)

I wouldn't class Burslem as rough it certainly isn't pretty but is friendly enough just as is most of the Potteries. You can get into trouble if you go around strutting your stuff but you would anywhere. Generally the people of Stoke on Trent are naturally warm and friendly.
Stoke City didn't get their ground provided by the council. The council donated a land locked site that was part of the old Hem Heath colliery in exchange for a third share in the developed site alongside the football club and a developer who also bought the old Victoria Ground. It made commercial sense, opened up other land that they owned for development. They then shared in the income from the new stadium with rent from the FC and all other corporate events and concerts and also made a profit in any case when Stoke City bought out their share. Happy days for everyone. If only we had such proactive and business like councils down here eh?
You weren't in Burslem on the evening after we lost the second leg of the play off final there. We nearly got killed and even the police who saved our lives were s***ting themselves. Took me three days to pick the broken bottles out of my head. from where we were i cant recall anything major that day, rovers had plenty up there even if vale had started, it was my best day out at football even though the result all topped off by john keyes do at the millionaires club and those saucy ladies

We were surrounded by 100's of the buggers and we were escorted back to the motorway by a dozen police cars. Our driver even managed to crash into one of them in his panic. We were warned all day not to hang around too long after the game but we took the bait.

the surroundings of nene park rushden & diamonds reminded me how characterless the area around the UWE stadium would be if it was built. Have you been there recently? On the subject of how areas/ grounds have changed anyone who had been to Glasgow in the seventies when the gorbals were being demolished and especially the areas around Celtic park would remember what a absolute wasteland and go there now to see the regeneration for the commonwealth games I couldn't believe it was the same place although the locals are still the same
