I see that a certain Chris Samuelson was at the FGR game and at Wembley. This is a very strange one. Anyone know or can shed any light on it. Google his name

I'm not sure it's all that strange. He seems to broker deals for foreign rich folk to buy football clubs.

That's already got a mention on the "Those anybody know?" thread, I assume he's going to broker some deal, given he clearly has some backers with substantial funds I'm not sure that's a bad thing? Although whilst Reading seem OK have Forest had a transfer embargo for most of this season?

Google his name Well known in Reading FC as the gentleman who introduced Anton Zingarevich (Russian millionaire ) to Reading. This arrangement propelled Reading immediately back into into the premiership (in no small part to the acquisition of one Jason Roberts ). Cash allowed purchase of Chris Guthrie, Royston Drenthe, Danny Williams, Wayne Bridge, Pavel Pogrebnyak etc. Club went down saddled with debt, Anton did a runner & club nearly went bust last close season. Believe Mr S is a broker rather than the man with the dosh but would be v v careful what we get into here.

It is very worrying, but and it's a massive but HE may be able to get the right person in. caution is what is required but at the same time maybe if things go well this week in the high court this could be the beginning of something we could only dream about. Having said all that, I hope that this is not the board selling the soul of the club.

Agree, but lets hope if we do attract very rich investors they are the right ones and have the money. Not like the mad man that tried to buy Salisbury, the reading plonker etc.

Having said all that, I hope that this is not the board selling the soul of the club. This is an interesting thing, gone are the days when a club like ourselves (or even City) can just have a couple of good/lucky years and find themselves in the top flight. If that's our ambition then we need to accept that the nature of our interaction with the club will change, the stadium will become all seater and any personal relationship with the club will be lost. Reading is a perfect example, soulless identikit stadium, agency staff etc. If you want a top flight club just chose one, there are half a dozen in the PL that stand a chance of winning something each year, but if you want a local club where the shop staff know your name and the players are allowed to sign your shirt on the Fun Day without charging you (I kid you not, players at a couple of the top clubs aren't allowed to give free autographs, you have to go to the shop and buy official signed merchandise) then maybe you will need to keep a cap on your ambition and accept that Rovers have a level that history suggests they will almost always perform at.

Key is investment over the long term. Stadium infrastructure to create revenue streams, Academy to bring through kids who want to play football and have the desire & character to understand what BRFC are all about (& be sold on when the time comes )
This in turn encourages new higher levels of investment.
Plenty of clubs have tried and failed with the tactic of importing the ready made stars.

Not like the mad man that tried to buy Salisbury, the reading plonker etc. Some very mad and dangerous people seem to have the ability to get close to power and access to massive sums of money. Google convicted fraudster Russel King. We just need to pray that if Higgs sells the club and or our stadium the contract is a bit clearer and easier to enforce than the one with Sainsbury's. The King fiasco left Notts County around £7m worse off.

However I think we all know in our hearts that if we get a payout this week that the board will sell out to the highest bidder. we know they have been looking for investors.

I think a lot depends on the Sainsbury court outcome - But as mentioned above, if this club truly want to move forward and replicate the success of clubs such as Swansea/Reading and now Bournemouth, foreign money is the only likely way forward.

Without foreign investment this club is going nowhere. Higgs has tried his best but i hope he understands that he is not the man to take the club forward. I don't really think it matters whether the investment is foreign or british, football club ownership is a risky business with lots of gambles taken, you just have to hope we get lucky. I would have a lot more respect for Higgs if he sells the club by the end of this summer after sticking around the last 12 months trying to right some of his wrongs, rather than hang around and not move things on quoting the line of 'we have to find the right people to buy the club', i think it's impossible to know 100% if someone is the right investor/owner.
