I've thought long and hard about writing a report on the Final yesterday but have decided against it and my reasons for that are
1) My reports for every game this season have really been aimed for those who for one reason or another are unable to travel to the game however I am sure that everybody who wanted to see yesterdays game have seen it either at the ground or on TV.
2) The whole squad has achieved the goal it set out to achieve and for that I think every member of that squad deserves a 10 and I do not want to mark or criticise any player who all to the last man, gave 100% for our club in the emotional atmosphere that was Wembley Stadium yesterday. To go behind so early in the game must have been an unimaginable feeling for the entire squad as it was to us supporters.Suddenly all your dreams are hanging on a knife edge. To get back into the game and eventually albeit the last kick of the game to give us our League Status back showed what OUR team is made of. The promotion yesterday was achieved based on an immense team spirit and wanting to play for each other. A real team effort.
3) I have tried throughout the Season to give my honest opinion of the game and the individual performances whether that be good or bad but for yesterday there was only one important thing and that was to get a result and that is exactly what our team did. You only had to look at the faces of every Rovers supporter and in a much different way the faces ot the Grimsby supporters to see what DC and his team gave us. Who am I to criticise the performance of any individual who had to play through that tension and emotion yesterday knowing that one error could throw away everything and so DC,Backroom staff, players and even the Board I salute you and close my account for this memorable season with DC's words.
"THE GAS ARE GOING UP.....THE GAS ARE GOING UP"
Have a good summer Gasheads and see you all next season.
