Chester Sign Matty BrownPUBLISHED 12:41 20th June 2014 CHESTER FC are delighted to announce the signing of central defender Matty Brown. The 23 year-old has turned down an offer from Bristol Rovers to sign a one year contract at the Swansway Chester Stadium where he spent a month on loan last season – making seven appearances. Brown was released by League Two Champions Chesterfield after he made the step up from Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Marine. Having began his career with Manchester City, the 6' 3" defender joined Marine from Northwich Victoria in June 2011. Brown said: “As soon as I heard Steve wanted to sign me again there was only place I was going to come. “Chester are a massive club with huge ambition and I want to be part of that. “We want to be competitive this season and working with the gaffer and Jon on a full time basis is something I can’t wait to get started.” Manager Steve Burr said: “Matty will be a strong signing for us and impressed me last season. “He is a big central defender who will have a key role to play with us in the Conference Premier. “I’m delighted he chose to join us.” Brown is available to sponsor this coming season for just £200. The price includes his signed shirt at the end of the season and a photo, plus your name in the programme and announced on the match day PA all season long. To sponsor him please call 01244 371376 or e-mail commercial@chesterfc.com Brown and his first team colleagues can be watched all season long for a cheaper rate by purchasing a Chester FC season ticket. Sign up before July 19th and get SIX free games of football and if you are an adult – get a FREE under 16 ticket thrown in! An early bird rate works out at just over £11 to stand as an adult or £13.30 to sit – a big saving on the individual match day price. Season tickets are on sale from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and can be purchased for no extra on a credit card. Credit Union instalment arrangements are also in place. Hopefully DC will go back and try and sign Jamie Turley.
Still need the following players
1 x Goalkeeper 1 x Right Footed Centre Half 1 x Creative Midfielder 1 x Defensive Midfielder 1 x Utility Player (Mainly plays as both a right & left full back) 3 x Wingers

Possibly, but i'd rather sign someone like Jamie Turley & have Lockyer as a 4th choice centre half. If there are games where we play 3-5-2 then we are going to need a minimum of 4 centre halfs in the squad, and Lockyer is good enough to play there or in midfield, i would also play Lockyer at full back so he's probably the squads utility player like Woodards was. McChrystal has a dodgy knee and when you consider what a long season it is and how under strength squads have been in the past, i hope DC assembles strength and depth from the first kick off rather than wait & see what happens which ends up needing to go into the loan market in October & November in search of a panic signing.

Love this comment - “Chester are a massive club with huge ambition and I want to be part of that. “
Puts us in our place! Mind you the fact that he lived and played football in the Cheshire area previously probably has nothing to do with it........

Been told DC is sruggling to attract quality players here, so not a surprise to me. After all last season we were turned down by 18 strikers (?) when we were in L2 and not even in the relegation places, according to Geoffrey Dunford on twitter. Why would things change now we've been relegated to non-league? The club is rotten to the core and agents/players can see that. They aren't stupid.

Interesting that he is in for another centre-half, good move too.
Plenty of fish in the sea, as the saying goes.

Can't be many quality players wanting to play in the conference is there? If the players are indeed quality, they should be looking at league football, I know I would.

Trouble is, I think there are a lot more practicality based issues in non-league, location etc. becomes more important. Inevitably players are going to turn us down, but that's not unusual for any football club. Looks like DC is looking at the right type of player anyway.

What is the right type, a Forest Green back-up player with a 1 in 4 record and a player that has suffered ligament damage, double fractures, groin surgery and only managed to start 15 games the previous season due to fitness concerns?

I was referring more to the centre-half Wes. Yes there are concerns with Taylor and White, but if Taylor can be played in the right position and used properly (like he was on loan at Chester) and White stays fit we have two good strikers on our hands. Big if I'll admit.

We've signed 2 so far, DC is not stupid he will know that another 6 new players are needed at the very minimum. You can't let go 12 players plus O'Toole and replace them with 4-6 new players

The sniping comments were unnecessary. Good luck to them.

He anticipated tabling a bid for an unnamed winger by he end of this week and has revealed plans to run the rule over "eight or nine" trialists during pre-season. Clarke said: "I'd like to get another two or three in before the start of the season and I'm after wide players and creative midfielders. There may be an offer going out later in the week for a wide player, but we will have to wait and see." According to oxongas "We will have a squad of 18-19 when training commences according to Darrell but Darrell wants 21-22 with loan signings. Only 5 subs rather than 7 in FL"

He says that . . . ''Chester are a massive club with huge ambition. '' If you remove BRFC from the equation, it still doesn't say much for his judgement does it?

They aren't stupid. ....and yet we are told that Matt Taylor joined us over L2 clubs & Lee Brown signed again in preference to higher clubs - so not sure there is much to base that on! The lad at Chester originated from Marine in Liverpool and Northwich so Chester on his doorstep. Less likely to be length of country moves for Conference players on 1 year deals of less than a grand a week.
