I'm travelling on a private hire coach to Wembley, and we had plans to stop off near London and tube into Wembley. However, the coach company are now telling us they have instructions (presumably from the police) that we must travel direct to Wembley.
Has anyone else had this problem?

How do the Police know that that coach company are traveling to Wembley? Sounds as though you are being given a bum steer by the coach company.

I did used to help run a private coach to every away game, and had to liaise with the police. There were plenty of restrictions back then, but I didn't think they actually had the power to dictate that you cannot stop where you want.

I'm pretty sure our coaches are parking in Ruislip(?)
Having a few beers there and overground/underground to Wembley.

If it's a private coach company then it's their (so essenitially your) choice where they (you and your party) go. Police have no say. That's what my son reckons who was a copper for a while in the early 2000s.

I suspect the coach company may well be pulling our chain- any spaces on your coach!!

Coach companies providing coaches for football supporters are required to register the vehicles with the Police. Drinking or the carrying of alcohol on the coaches is prohibited and could lead to the arrest of the driver if the coach is pulled over for inspection and alcohol found on the coach, even if in the luggage hold so just be aware.

Which is why it is always wiser to take plastic bottles of 'Coca Cola' on to the coach instead!

The police have been telling football fans where they can and cannot got for years now. Unless they have checkpoints in the motorway exits I don't see how they can do anything about it... During the late eighties early nineties I ran loads of independent coach trips with usual suspects on board with had several run ins with old bill and it climaxed when I booked 2 coaches in the lead up to the end of season games at tranmere and notts county . At 7am on the day before the tranmere game the local old bill came calling saying they were going to be all over us and i must go to both grounds without stopping which on the Monday evening the coach was escorted into Birkenhead by flashing lights you can imagine the look on the Bristol police liaison officers face when the coach pulled into the ground with just me and the driver on board and the driver being one paddy White a big old lump from southmead who hated the police more than anyone on that coach .on the way back we stopped in Chester by the time the old bill caught up with us we had all had a good time they demanded to know where the driver was when told he was in the bar they stormed in just as he was finishing his chaser scary ride home .as for the nottts county game that's another story

I used to play county darts and we couldn't drink on the coach because it counted as a sporting event. So any time a coach is booked for sport it's illegal to drink.

I am a coach driver and will be driving a coach to Wembley and of course supporting the boys in blue.Just to clarify a point,we are not allowed to stop anywhere between our starting point and Wembley except at Reading Services and from there cannot stop until parked in the Stadium. The same applies on the return journey. Alcohol is not allowed on the coach and there can be serious problems if that happens. Incidentally I also drove a coach to Wembley for the JPT final and those restrictions were also in place. Might I also suggest buying any flags/shirts/claxons etc from the club shop as they will also be on sale at Reading services but are inferior and would prefer we gave our money to the club and not outsiders making a quick buck. Will be driving the coach wearing my blue and white quarters so give me a wave if you see me. UTG.

As someone who regularly breaks the law in administering a certain medicine to alleviate the symptoms of a progressive illness for 20 years this offers a lot of experience, knowledge and savvy on how to swerve plod. It doesn't take much effort to ensure an easy get out clause should the boys in blue decide to board the coach.
