Is anyone getting a little nervous about actually getting on a train to Paddington on the 17th?
I'm booked on the 07:58 from Bath Spa and I'm nervous that the train will be too busy from Temple Meads to even get on at Bath (and no doubt Bath Spa will be busy). I have spoken to FGW and they simply say that it will be busy and you'll be standing, though I have no doubt that they are underestimating the numbers who will be travelling, especially considering there are less sevices than normal and with all the railworks going on.
I'm probably going to cancel my tickets and book a later train - from Westbury (wilts) at 09:50 to Paddington.

Why not buy a return from Bath - Bristol just to be safe, and get on at Temple Meads, I know its more expense to an already expensive day out, but at least you will have peace of mind.

You may get a seat then. Obviously takes a bit more time but just a thought.

Its normally a quicker route as it makes less stops. I'm in Trowbridge so was going to take the train from Westbury, but at £60 ish a ticket they can ram it, I'm driving. Might even persuade the Mrs to drive back!

National Express from Bristol bus station was around £20 return last week. 4 of us getting the 8am coach to get us there around 10.45. Job done.
Megabus was coming up a bit cheaper but we'd rather the slight luxury of the national express!

I made sure to go from there rather than getting one from Trowbridge that changes at Bath Spa for the very reason you describe... I can see all the ones coming through from Bristol being rammed, surely FGW are planning for this eventuality!!

Did I NOT HEAR all trains from BTM to Paddington finish at Reading on 17 May and a bus to Victoria Coach station ? SAME ON RETURN JOURNEY No, National Rail and FGW (the operator) are both saying that there are diversions in place due to engineering works around the Reading area and between Southall and Paddington, the latter ending by 0830 Sunday.
This means that most trains will be running TM > Bath > Reading > Padd via diverted lines and not stopping at Didcot/Swindon/Chippenham. There is one train each way that involves a part bus substitution but that's all. Things can change of course but that's the latest as reported by National Rail and their engineering work is booked in advance - things do overrun of course.... Have faith, and a beer.

Im guessing quite a few gas heads will use this cheaper option...depending if they can handle the coach journey!

Queued for over 3 hours for a train after an Olympic game at the Millennium Stadium as no extra services were put in place. Thousands of foreigners on a once in a lifetime trip who were going back to London got an authentic taste of the British transport system.
