I have phoned a couple of pubs today who seem very cagey about whether they are open or not, I got the distinct impression they are 'local pubs for local people' does anyone know of any more welcoming hostelries by the park and rides rather than in Nailsworth maybe?

In short if the P&R is from Renishaw as some are suggesting then no there aren't any pubs on that stretch within safe walking distance as it is the A46 and not paved all the way. Personally I would recommend the Ram in Woodchester, a beaut of a pub with great food, plenty of decent real ales and (watch out) a drop of Old Rosie at just the 7.5%! Great views as well and staff are friendly, walked in last week with two lads from Dublin and one from Denmark and they were blown away, mind you the weather was bang on which helps sitting outside.
Its not walking distance from P&R really nor the ground, unless your arriving soon, plenty of watering holes in Nailsworth that you should be able to wander into, I'm guessing the reservations from landlords is knowing the shear number they may be faced with that they are not used to.
I would say the above is only worth attempting if your planning on arriving 2 or 3 hours before ko though as it is an awkward place to be from pub to ground, have a good night, some of us are cup tied with our kids football final at Keynsham!

Despite the fact that we took a larger contingent to the game earlier in the season and there was absolutely no trouble, the locals really do seem to have whipped themselves up into a lather over this one. You are probably wanting something better, but I'd probably go with the marquee tonight.

the police forced the pubs in the centre of Nailsworth to close before and after the league game.
they were also charging £4 a pint at the ground in the bar.
after the game we did however find a pub open at the bottom of the hill, turn right(if coming down it) at the tescos and keep walking.

The marquee sounds good to me.

I work in Nailsworth and know 5/6 of FGR fans quite well (see them daily) and have heard nothing derogatory at all, I keep reading on forums how all the FGR supporters follow ex murderers and have six toes, how Nailsworth is full of freaks (only typed behind the keyboard) but back in the real world here in Nailsworth it seems like its business as usual and the fans I do know are really looking forward to the game and hoping to put one over us but are as respectful as any fan you could wish to meet.

"Ex murderers" I am led to believe the local pubs including the Britannia are closed until 7 on police advice.

The only trouble we'll likely to have is mostly from our own behaviour, if we behave there won't any need for close supervision from the law or stewards. Lets enjoy this game and the experience of it and get some credit from FGR because of it. If we go there acting like 'we're Bristol Rovers and we shouldn't be here attitude' then I fear we'll get put in our place by how some are describing it as a 'village team'. They are anything but that and deserve to be where they are and our respect. That being said I want us to impose ourselves on them from the very start, the football team and our supporters, none of this half hearted playing or singing stuff, we're going to war during the match because we want to win, before or afterwards we can be as quiet as lambs !
