To be fair to him, while the ref had a terrible game I have some sympathy for him there. I don't think he saw the incident. The play had ended and he'd probably turned to run back towards the halfway line. I don't think the linesman saw it properly either. That's why they didn't give a red. I'd rather an official didn't guess personally. You are a confusing fella at times. If he saw nothing and the Lino obviously didn't either or it would have been a straight red for violant conduct, then there's no other conclusion, he guessed. Or are you saying that it's OK to guess and give yellow but not guess and give red? Puddy should have gone down and rolled around a bit screaming. Don't usually approve of those antics, but when faced with teams who play how FGR and Eastleigh do you need to do something to balance up what's happening in the game. Hope Sunday's ref was watching and knows what to expect from them. It's going to get tasty if we are still winning towards the end of the game. I don't think I said it was the right decision to give a yellow there - just that I didn't think he could give a red. He shouldn't have given a yellow either if he was guessing. It was a cop out call, I agree. If they'd just admitted they hadn't seen it then there may have been the possibility of retrospective punishment. I wasn't saying I thought he made the right decision - just that I had some sympathy for the ref in that situation.
